Prince William marks David Attenborough's 99th birthday with sweet photo of his children

Prince William has shared a sweet message to Sir David Attenborough, who turned 99 on May 8. The documentarian is releasing a new film about the importance of saving the ocean to mark such a significant milestone.
Meanwhile, the Prince of Wales has shared his admiration for the writer, natural historian and biologist.

In a message released on social media, Prince William said: “As he turns 99 today, in his new film, Sir David has once again reminded us of the need to protect natural habitats – this time those beneath the ocean.
“He has dedicated his life to ensuring we understand the realities of what mankind is doing to the planet. However hard-hitting his message is, Sir David always leaves us with a sense of hope and optimism that all is not lost and this film is no different. We must act together, with urgency, to restore our oceans. Happy Birthday, David. W.”
Alongside the heartfelt message, William shared two photos, including an image of his children beside David when they were younger.

In the first snap, Prince William touched Sir David’s shoulder as the duo grinned at each other.
In the next, the Prince and Princess of Wales smiled, stood beside Sir David Attenborough and surrounded by their children, George, Charlotte and Louis.
He has dedicated his life to ensuring we understand the realities of what mankind is doing to the planet.
The Wales children looked very excited as they were snapped congregating on a lawn and even Sir David Attenborough himself looked overjoyed to be joined by the young royals.
The photo was taken at Kensington Palace in 2020.
In October of 2020, the voice of Prince Louis was heard for the first time in a clip with his siblings where they met with Sir David.

The then two-year-old, in a video shared on the X (formerly Twitter) at the time, asked Sir David: “What animal do you like?”
The adorable video showcased the young royals asking Sir David a string of questions.
Prince George introduced the clip, asking: “Hello David Attenborough. What animal do you think will be extinct next?”
Princess Charlotte also revealed her love of spiders in the footage.
At the time, royal fans went wild over the video. They also gushed over the way Louis pronounced the world “animal”. Sweetly, he said “amimal”.
One person gushed: “2020 – Prince Louis taught all of us the proper way to pronounce ‘amimal’.”
Another wrote: “‘What AMIMAL do you like?’ Prince Louis is unbelievably cute.”

Royal observers flocked to the comment section to share their birthday wishes for Sir David, with one penning: “He’s a legend. Happy birthday to Sir David.”
Another said: “Look at Charlotte’s wee face! That’s how I’d look if I met this GIANT of a human too. Happy birthday Sir David Attenborough.”
A third added: “Sir David Attenborough is a living legend, a wonderful man.”
“Happy birthday to Sir David have a wonderful day our national treasure,” chimed in a fourth.
Sir David Attenborough has a long history with the royals. He became knighted by the late Queen Elizabeth II in 1985 and the pair were said to have shared a friendship that spanned over six decades.

These days, the royals still very much support the national treasure. In fact, on Tuesday May 6, King Charles attended the Ocean with David Attenborough World Premiere, where they were snapped together both sporting tuxedos.
Elsewhere, Prince William reportedly attended his own private screening of Sir David’s latest project this week.
Evidently, Sir David has done a lot of work that has pleased the royals.
In 2022, he became a Knight Grand Cross of the Order of St Michael And St George, highlighting his work for the natural world in TV shows and his ongoing campaigning to protect the environment.
