Poignant meaning behind Princess Kate’s vintage pearl necklace was very fitting for VE Day
Princess Kate is very thoughtful when it comes to her wardrobe...
Kate Middleton is known for her stunning style, especially when it comes to her jewellery, and the pearl necklace she rocked last night at the VE Day celebratory concert in London was no different.
In fact, as ever, Princess Kate’s choice of accessory had a very special meaning behind it.
A jewellery expert has said pearls “signify sorrow and grief”.

Meaning behind Kate Middleton’s pearl necklace
Princess Kate’s fashion choices usually come with a beautiful message.
Whether it be the history behind her engagement ring that once belonged to Princess Diana or the colour symbolism that informs her ensembles, there is always more than what first meets the eye.
Last night, May 8, the royals attended a concert concluding the VE Day events, with many Second World War veterans in attendance.
Kate, 43, opted for a vintage necklace to compliment her outfit.
The Princess of Wales wore a chic yet understated Self-Portrait white tweed blazer dress for the event.
The five-strand pearl necklace is reportedly from a celebrated Jewish vintage jewellery curator.

Princess Kate previously wore the accessory when she attended the Holocaust Memorial Service in January.
Sharing a post on Instagram, curator Susan Caplan praised Kate’s choice.
They said: “We are honoured that the Princess of Wales has chosen to wear our earrings and necklace for the VE Day concert in Horse Guards Parade, marking the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day.”
Although currently out of stock, the necklace usually retails for £275 ($365).
The piece is a rhodium-plated five row pearl strand necklace. It “features luminous faux pearls in graduating sizes”.
It closes “with an embellished Swarovski crystal clasp, weighted extension chain and hook,” as stated on the jeweller’s website.

Princess Kate’s jewellery choices for VE Day celebrations
All of Kate’s recent jewellery choices have appeared to be extremely fitting.
Discussing the Princess of Wales’ polka dot outfit for the service of thanksgiving at Westminster Abbey earlier on Thursday, Tobias Kormind, MD and Co-Founder of 77 Diamonds, explained how Kate channelled her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana.
Kormind said: “The Princess of Wales’ outfit and jewels today were reminiscent of Princess Diana.”
They explained: “She chose to accessorise with pearls and opted for her Collingwood Pearl and Diamond drop earrings. These were gifted to the late Princess as a wedding present by Collingwood, a jewellery firm favoured by the Spencers, and became a mainstay in her jewellery collection.
“They have been a fast favourite of both princesses who have often paired them with the pearl and diamond Lover’s Knot tiara. The earrings were also fitting keeping in mind the solemn nature of the occasion.”
He went on to say: “Pearls signify sorrow and grief, and this jewel was also worn by the princess on Remembrance Sunday in 2021, tying together the two sombre occasions.”
