Joy told the BBC: “When I sat down I noticed there were two empty seats next to me. They looked just like our seats so I asked my daughter who was sitting next to us and she had to come clean.”

His Majesty’s speech was delivered at 9pm. This was the exact same time that his grandfather, King George VI, made a radio broadcast on VE day in 1945.
Recalling his grandfather’s words, Charles said: “For as my grandfather put it: ‘We shall have failed, and the blood of our dearest will have flowed in vain, if the victory which they died to win does not lead to a lasting peace, founded on justice and established in good will.'”
