Kate Middleton donned a chic £1,340 ($1.7k) olive green tailored suit by Victoria Beckham on Tuesday to present the Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design.

The Princess of Wales, 43, celebrated British creativity and sustainability during the event hosted by the British Fashion Council, which took place at 180 Studio in London.

The annual award recognises rising stars in the fashion industry.

Kate delivered the accolade, underscoring her long-standing support of both emerging designers and the future of sustainable British fashion.

For the occasion, Princess Kate wore Victoria Beckham’s patch pocket jacket in “willow” (£850/$1.1k) and matching Alina trousers (£490/$650).

The £1,340 ($1.7k) ensemble subtly reflected environmental consciousness through its earthy tone.

Sweetly, Kate also reportedly paid tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II by wearing a pair of her favourite earrings.

She has such a huge influence on women and what they want to wear.

Though Kate has worn items from Beckham’s label in the past, her decision to wear the full Victoria Beckham suit for such a prestigious occasion was seen by many as a direct show of support for British fashion.

“She’s an amazing advocate of British fashion,” said Patrick McDowell, this year’s award recipient. “A real style icon.”

“A lot of the time, fashion is not seen at the same level as other arts,” designer Clio Peppiatt told PEOPLE after the event. “So to have that support from the very top, it elevates the whole industry.”

Speaking about the Princess of Wales, she also added: “She has such a huge influence on women and what they want to wear. She always looks impeccably turned out.”

The outing began with a visit to Patrick’s pop-up studio. Kate saw how the designer crafts sustainable, made-to-order garments from unexpected materials.

Patrick founded their label in 2018. They are known for circular fashion and dramatic silhouettes.

“This kind of recognition is invaluable and provides a game-changing stamp of approval for our circular luxury brand,” Patrick also said as they accepted the award.

“Thank you to the enduring legacy of Queen Elizabeth II, the royal family, and the British Fashion Council, who support British craft, British talent, and sustainability on a global stage.”

The ‘Kate effect’

Nicknamed the “Kate effect,” the princess’s fashion choices often cause items to sell out within hours.

Through her wardrobe, she has helped to shine a spotlight on designers both established and emerging.

Tuesday’s appearance only reaffirmed her influence in the fashion world. It also served as a continuation of Queen Elizabeth II’s commitment to British craftsmanship.

The late queen presented the first award to Richard Quinn in 2018 during a surprise visit to London Fashion Week.
