Prince Harry and wife Meghan Markle have reportedly been dealt a brutal verdict over their popularity in the UK.

According to a new YouGov poll, the couple’s popularity amongst the British people has hit an all-time low.

YouGov carried out their survey just days after Prince Harry’s recent interview with the BBC. In the bombshell conversation, the prince revealed that he wishes to “reconcile” with his estranged family.

Prince Harry and Meghan’s popularity rating

Harry’s comments saw him hit with widespread criticism. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the resulting survey showed that his popularity has reached its lowest level in two years. 63% confessed themselves to have a negative view of him, while only 27% said they still see him positively.

The poll of his wife’s popularity was even more damning. Only 20% of Britons said that they still view Meghan positively, with a whopping 65% now having a negative opinion.

The poll shows how popular she was before she left as a senior royal, and then how it dipped when they left in 2020.

GB News royal correspondent Cameron Walker discussed the results. He explained how Meghan’s popularity has been on a downwards trajectory in the past five years, despite multiple attempts to rebrand.

He said: “The poll shows how popular she was before she left as a senior royal, and then how it dipped when they left in 2020, and how it’s continued a steady decline since.”

He then went on: “In the last few months she has relaunched her Instagram to try and rebrand herself, and she has launched her own lifestyle business As Ever. And of course she’s done that Netflix series With Love, Meghan, which did have mixed reviews. Some people just liked it as an easy watch – but a lot of people clearly thought it wasn’t great and was painting this picture of Meghan which wasn’t perhaps the truth, for example, it wasn’t filmed in her own kitchen.”

He then turned to Harry’s public image, and considered how his reaction to losing his security case had been potentially damaging.

Cameron said: “He lost his appeal and just a couple of hours after he sat down with the BBC, basically saying it was incredibly unfair in his opinion and that the state is basically out to get him, the institution is out to get him as well. It was a bit of a rant.”

The commentator also described his shock at hearing Harry talk so brazenly about his father’s mortality. The prince explained how one of his factors behind wanting to reconcile with his family was a fear of not knowing how long his father might have left amid his illness.
