King Charles is reportedly torn over the possibility of a reconciliation with Prince Harry, as he struggles with the emotional toll of their strained relationship and the distance from his grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

But insiders suggest that while the king, 76, harbours hopes for a future reconciliation, his focus remains firmly on the stability and continuity of the monarchy.

A source told Grazia: “The king does not like conflict and he would love for this all to be resolved. But Harry has to earn the trust back. The ball is in his court in that respect.

King Charles’ ‘decision’ over Prince Harry reconciliation

“The king loves his son, and he is very sad he has not spent any time with Archie and Lilibet, but Harry hasn’t made reconciliation easy. But the door is always open as far as the king is concerned. He’s a magnanimous man, not a malicious one, but his priority is the preservation of the monarchy.”

Prince Harry, now living in California with wife Meghan Markle and their two children, recently expressed his desire to reconcile with his family.

He’s a magnanimous man, not a malicious one, but his priority is the preservation of the monarchy.

In a candid interview with the BBC on May 2, the Duke of Sussex said: “There have been so many disagreements between myself and some of my family. I would love reconciliation with my family. There’s no point continuing to fight anymore. Life is precious.”

Since stepping down as a working royal in 2020, Harry has returned to the UK only for significant events, such as Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in 2022, King Charles’ coronation in 2023, and a brief visit after the monarch’s cancer diagnosis in 2024.

However, these visits have reportedly been short and without much personal engagement. Reports indicate that Harry’s most recent trip in April – for court hearings over his security appeal – did not include a meeting with his father.

King Charles urged to ‘give Harry last chance’

Elsewhere, royal author Robert Jobson has urged King Charles to consider giving Harry a last chance.

Robert told HELLO! magazine in this week’s issue: “If you read between the lines, Harry was clearly reaching out to his father [in the interview].

“The only way this is going to be resolved and to stop this becoming the focus of the king’s reign is for Charles to take a shot in the dark and give Harry a last chance to build bridges.”

One of the most heartbreaking aspects of the estrangement is King Charles’ lack of a relationship with his grandkids Archie, six, and Lilibet, three.

Since moving to the US, the children have only made limited visits to the UK, including the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in 2022.

It’s unclear whether the king has seen them in person since.
