Prince William’s ‘disappointment’ at the FA Cup final

On Saturday, in his role as patron of the FA, Prince William was in attendance for the FA Cup final.

The Prince of Wales, 42, shook hands with the Manchester City and Crystal Palace players at the beginning of the match. He later handed out medals to the Crystal Palace players at the end of the game.

However, a body language expert believes that the future king looked “glum” at the game over the weekend. And it could be something to do with the fact that his beloved Aston Villa weren’t playing.

Villa, of course, were beaten by eventual champions Crystal Palace 3-0 in the semi-final last month.

Body language expert weighs in on William’s appearance at the final

Speaking on behalf of Betfair Casino, body language expert Darren Stanton addressed William’s appearance at the game.

“This is definitely a different side of Prince William. There was one particular shot where he stood on the pitch with his left hand placed in front of him, which is something we don’t often see him do,” he said.

“It’s a self-reassurance gesture, a kind of a guarded gesture. We tend to do that subconsciously when we’re feeling nervous or unconfident. Normally William displays huge levels of confidence, so this is quite a change for him.”

“His face also showed a similar picture. His eyebrows were pulled together, his lips were pursed and we could see lines on his forehead. The shot of him shaking hands with the players on the pitch, it almost looks like he’s masking a smile,” he then continued.

William is the ‘epitome of professionalism’

Darren then continued.

“We’re not seeing that full, engaged face, which is normally what we see from William when he’s attending sporting events. His own football team got kicked out in the semi-finals, which could be the reason for those gestures, in that he’s still feeling a sense of slight disappointment. Nevertheless, William still greeted them with warmth and appeared totally engaged in the conversations,” he said.

“There was definitely a shift in emotion when William was handing out the medals. He looked genuinely happy for the players, and his previous expressions appeared to soften. His face was fully engaged, and you could see crow’s feet at the sides of his eyes, which suggests his emotions were authentic,” he then went on to say.

This is definitely a different side of Prince William.

Darren added: “The thing with William is that he always remains professional in these situations – he’s always the epitome of professionalism.

“Even though his team didn’t make it to the final, he puts his royal duties first and genuinely enjoys connecting with people. Wherever he goes, he dresses appropriately to fit in and puts others at ease. He definitely doesn’t have an ego, even though he’s the future king. Overall, while he did show some signs of slight disappointment earlier in the day, his expressions clearly changed – he seemed genuinely happy to be there and to take it all in.”
