The late Queen Elizabeth II reportedly had some stern words for Meghan Markle ahead of her royal wedding in 2018.

Today (May 19) marks seven years since Meghan married Prince Harry in a fairytale wedding at St George’s Chapel in Windsor.

But, in the lead-up to the big day, tensions reportedly rose. The Queen – who died in 2022 at the age of 96 – apparently stepped in during a disagreement between Meghan and a caterer, a royal author once claimed.

Queen Elizabeth’s ‘stern words’ for Meghan Markle ahead of her wedding

As reported by MailOnline, in her 2022 book, The New Royals, royal author Katie Nicholls wrote about how the late queen stepped in when Meghan berated a caterer.

The alleged incident reportedly took place before Meghan’s wedding to Prince Harry in 2018.

Katie wrote: “On one occasion in the run-up to the wedding, Meghan went to Windsor Castle for a menu-tasting and ended up having a tense exchange with a member of staff, according to one source.

Meghan, in this family we don’t speak to people like that.

“‘Meghan was at the castle to taste some of the dishes, and told one of the caterers she could taste egg,’ said the source. ‘She got quite upset, saying that the dish was meant to be vegan and macrobiotic.'”

The book added: “Suddenly the Queen walked in and said: ‘Meghan, in this family we don’t speak to people like that.'”

Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton’s bridesmaid row

It wasn’t just the caterers that Meghan reportedly fell out with before her wedding in 2018.

The Duchess of Sussex, 43, also famously clashed with Kate Middleton before the big day.

In late 2018, months after Meghan and Harry’s wedding, reports emerged that Kate had been left in tears over a row with Meghan about Princess Charlotte’s bridesmaid dress in the lead-up to the big day.

However, in her 2021 tell-interview with Oprah Winfrey alongside Prince Harry, Meghan claimed it was in fact her who had been left in tears by the row.

Harry offered an explanation on the row in his 2023 book, Spare. The Duke of Sussex said that Kate had texted Meghan on the week of the wedding with a “problem”.

The problem was reportedly about Charlotte’s dress, described as “too big, long, and baggy” for the young royal. Additionally, Kate allegedly told Meghan that Charlotte had burst into tears upon trying the dress on.

What did Kate say about Meghan’s bridesmaid dresses?

Harry then claimed that Kate wanted all the dresses to be remade, four days before the big day.

However, the Princess of Wales eventually agreed to go to the tailor with Princess Charlotte.

Harry added that he later found Meghan “on the floor” in tears following the disagreement with her now sister-in-law.

Ajay Mirpuri, a royal tailor who worked on the wedding, shared his thoughts on the incident in 2023.

He told the MailOnline: “I can understand why anybody would be upset if the dresses weren’t fitting it’s nerve-wracking. I feel for them all, because you wouldn’t want the children to go out on a big stage in an ill-fitting dress and that’s what they were. All six bridesmaids’ dresses had to be fixed, and we did it. I’m a royalist and I wanted to do whatever I could with my small business to serve the royal family.”
