Measures Meghan Markle and Prince Harry took to keep honeymoon 'secret' after wedding
The royal wedding had put the couple under a lot of stress it seems
For Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, their first trip as husband and wife after their wedding day was anything but typical.
According to revelations from Harry’s 2023 memoir Spare, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex went to extraordinary lengths to protect the privacy of their post-wedding getaway.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s honeymoon after their wedding day
“Our honeymoon [was] a closely guarded secret,” Prince Harry wrote, as reported by HELLO!. “We left London in a car disguised as a removals van, the windows covered with cardboard, and went to the Mediterranean for ten days. Glorious to be away, on the sea, in the sun.”
The couple’s efforts to throw off the press and public included camouflaging their departure vehicle as a moving truck, complete with cardboard-covered windows, to avoid detection by photographers and onlookers.
The build-up to the wedding had worn us down.
Their chosen destination was somewhere along the Mediterranean. It was a brief but welcome escape from the whirlwind of their highly publicised royal wedding.
However, the romantic escape didn’t go entirely to plan.
“But we were also sick,” Harry admitted. “The build-up to the wedding had worn us down.”
The exhaustion he described likely reflects the intense pressure the couple were under at the time, dealing not only with the scrutiny of the global media but also family drama, public expectations and the alleged internal tensions of royal life.

Meghan Markle wellness
While the honeymoon may have started on a less than glamorous note with both feeling unwell, it’s likely that Meghan may have had her toolkit of natural remedies ready.
A long-time advocate of homoeopathy, acupuncture, and nutritional healing, Meghan has spoken about her wellness practices and alternative health approach in past interviews.
In Spare, Harry shared a moment that illustrated Meghan’s natural healing instincts when Prince William fell ill during a visit.
The duke wrote: “Willy had a cold: he was sneezing and coughing, and Meg ran upstairs to get him some of her homoeopathic cure-alls. Oregano oil, turmeric. He seemed charmed, moved, though Kate announced to the table that he’d never take such unconventional remedies.”
According to Meghan, natural wellness has played a big role in her own health journey. Speaking to The Chalkboard in a pre-royal interview in 2015, she explained: “I have been a longtime believer in acupuncture. I used to have debilitating migraines (hospitalised for them), and acupuncture and Eastern medicine absolutely changed my life. Migraine-free living is a game-changer.”
She also reportedly continued acupuncture treatments with celebrity acupuncturist Ross Barr, leading up to the birth of her son Archie.
According to her interview with The Chalkboard, her go-to staples include tea tree oil, yoga balm and the Honest Company’s Organic Healing Balm.
She also revealed her daily supplement routine: “Magnesium, B-12 drops, multivitamin, and sometimes ashwagandha makes it into the mix too!”
When under the weather, Meghan turns to a specific book.
She said in the interview: “Prescription for Nutritional Healing. I always reference that book to help fix what ails me. It’s awesome! My mum gives me an updated version every time they come out.”
