King Charles may reportedly still be open to reconciliation with his youngest son...

As Prince Harry continues to express his desire for reconciliation with King Charles, insiders suggest that it is unlikely, especially with Prince William, Princess Kate and Queen Camilla reportedly shutting the door on a royal reunion.

Speaking to The Times, royal sources have painted a bleak picture of the Duke of Sussex’s standing within the royal fold, following a string of highly publicised interviews and his explosive 2023 memoir Spare.

While King Charles, 76, is reportedly open to the idea of reconnecting with his son, those closest to him are opposed.

“As long as William, Kate and Camilla have a say in the matter, Harry will be left out in the Californian wilderness,” the outlet claimed.

Latest on Prince Harry and King Charles reconciliation

The late Queen Elizabeth II may have been a pillar of unity in the family, but today’s divisions are more personal. Queen Camilla now appears to be at the centre of the issue.

One insider noted that in Charles’ mind, Harry’s attacks on Camilla crossed a line that may be impossible to uncross.

In the memoir Spare, Harry was frank about his stepmother.

He wrote: “I had complex feelings about gaining a step parent who, I believed, had recently sacrificed me on her personal PR altar. In a funny way I even wanted Camilla to be happy. Maybe she’d be less dangerous if she was happy?”

As long as William, Kate and Camilla have a say in the matter, Harry will be left out in the Californian wilderness.

However, during an interview in 2023 for Good Morning America, the Duke of Sussex addressed his comments about Camilla. He said: “I don’t look at her as an evil stepmother. I see someone who married into this institution, and has done everything she can to improve her own reputation and her own image, for her own sake.”

But his comments about Camilla in Spare didn’t go down well, it seems.

A friend of the king told The Times that the entire subject of his falling out with Harry is so painful that Charles avoids it completely in social settings.

“It seems to me one of those things that, if you wanted to have a cheerful evening or cheerful lunch, is probably best not to mention,” the friend reportedly admitted.

‘Harry can’t understand his father’

Despite the chill from within royal circles, Prince Harry has publicly expressed hope for reconciliation.

“I would love reconciliation with my family,” he said in a BBC interview earlier this month. “There’s no point continuing to fight any more. Life is precious.”

However, royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith believes Harry’s desire to reconnect is undermined by a misreading of his father’s character.

“It shows a lack of insight on Harry’s part because Charles is an empathetic person,” she told The Times. “If Harry can’t understand his father to that degree, there’s a problem.”

Prince Harry’s last meetings with King Charles and brother William

Prince Harry has become estranged from his father King Charles and brother Prince William in recent years.

It comes amid Harry's tell-all 2023 book, Spare, and 2021 Oprah interview with wife Meghan Markle, which saw the couple make a string of allegations about the royal family.

Since then, relations have reportedly been tense. Prince Harry recently said he'd love to reconcile with his family. But when was the last time he saw his father and brother?

Prince Harry's last meetings with King Charles and William

Following the king’s cancer diagnosis in February 2024, Prince Harry flew to London alone to see his father.

At the time, reports claimed that the meeting lasted around 30 to 45 minutes. Other royal commentators have suggested it didn't even last that long.

At the time, Prince Harry gushed over being able to see his father Charles following his health news.

"I love my family," Harry said in a Good Morning America interview. "The fact that I was able to go and see him and spend any time with him, I’m grateful for that."

When did Harry and William last see each other?

The last known meeting between the pair was 2024, when they attended a memorial service in August of that year for their uncle, Lord Robert Fellowes, husband to Princess Diana’s sister, Lady Jane Fellowes.

The service took place in Norfolk, and both William and Harry were in attendance. However, they were not seen interacting. Reports claim they don’t talk to each other anymore.

Sources allege that William and Harry aren't on talking terms.

Prince Harry tipped to attend Trooping the Colour 2025 alongside King Charles

More recently, bookies have predicted that Harry could reunite with his family for the 2025 Trooping the Colour ceremony in June.

However, it's unclear if this will actually happen. But it would be the perfect time for a reconciliation to happen...

As tensions have deepened, Harry and King Charles have reportedly not seen each other in over 15 months. And the situation hasn’t been helped by ongoing legal disputes.

Harry recently lost his appeal to reinstate taxpayer-funded police protection during UK visits.

This legal case reportedly added fuel to the fire. The king’s reluctance to engage further partly stems from the “security stuff,” according to Harry.

With William, Kate, and Camilla reportedly opposing any re-entry into the royal fold, even a sympathetic King Charles is said to be treading cautiously.

Royal Insider has contacted reps for Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace for comment.
