Kate Middleton has shared an incredibly emotional moment with a young boy after receiving a Jellycat gift.

Buckingham Palace held a garden party on Tuesday (May 20), which both Kate Middleton and Prince William attended. While they were there, they shared a handful of moments with guests – but this one was particularly poignant.

Tuesday marked the first garden party Kate had been at in two years, due to her cancer battle. This year, her return was a welcome surprise as it had not been announced she would be there.

During the event, Kate met the family of a young photographer who tragically died from cancer last year, and the princess admitted she still thinks about her.

Liz Hatton died in November 2024, months after being diagnosed with an aggressive desmoplastic small round cell tumour.

In October 2024, Liz met with the Princess of Wales and even got the opportunity to photograph Prince William at an investiture.

This week, Liz’s younger brother got the opportunity to speak to the princess at the garden party. Nine-year-old Mateo gifted Kate with two lemon pie and picked onion shaped Jellycat toys – much to her delight.

Kate was wearing a yellow Emilia Wickstead dress and hat by Philip Treacy – an apparent subtle nod to Prince Harry and Meghan. But when she saw her outfit went with the Jellycat toys, Kate gushed: “It matches my dress, how did you know?”

She continued to have an emotional conversation with Liz’s family, admitting that certain Jellycat toys remind her of the young girl.

According to HELLO!, Kate said: “We talked about it. When I see the fish and chips Jellycat, I think of her. She really made the most of everything. I loved her creativity all the way through.”

Kate went on to share her love and gratitude for the family, offering to help them in any way she can.

The Princess of Wales added: “If you need any help fundraising, maybe I can help. Please stay in touch, really

William also shared an emotional moment

Prince William also had something to say about the Jellycat toys.

William said to Mateo: “You look very smart today,” before turning his attention to the toys. “These are like gold dust. My children go crazy for these things. This is a children’s currency.”

Other royals who went to the event included Princess Eugenie and Zara Tindall.

Kate getting a Jellycat gift wasn’t the only adorable moment of the event. Prince William shared an emotional meeting with 10-year-old Tony Hudgell.

She really made the most of everything. I loved her creativity all the way through.

Tony had both his legs amputated after being abused as a baby by his birth parents, who were jailed for 10 years in 2018. He was supposed to attend a similar party last year, but missed it due to traffic.

In a video on X, Prince William spent some time chatting with Tony, before taking his top hat off and placing it on the youngster’s head.

It’s now been revealed that William told Tony that this year was better because of the weather.

He reportedly said: “Last year, it poured and poured with rain. You couldn’t see anything. So you chose a good year to come. I’m glad you came on a better day.”
