Queen Camilla was once seemingly caught off guard when asked Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s decision to leave the royal family in 2020.
In a clip from January 2020, royal watchers were left analysing the then Duchess of Cornwall’s comments during an engagement.
The moment took place during Camilla’s visit to Prospect Hospice in Swindon, shortly after Prince Harry and Meghan announced they were stepping back as senior royals and relocating to North America.
The couple’s shocking announcement had rocked the monarchy just days earlier.

During the engagement, a reporter called out: “Will you miss Harry and Meghan?”
Camilla’s reply? A brief pause, a smile, and then a simple, carefully delivered: “Hmm. Of course.”
The moment was shared on social media by ITV’s royal editor Chris Ship.
“Watch Camilla’s face closely as she answers the question,” Chris wrote alongside the video. ‘Will you miss Harry and Meghan?’ The Duchess of Cornwall smiles, pauses, then says, ‘Hmmm. Course!'”
Camilla’s subtle delivery didn’t go unnoticed, sparking a flurry of reactions online at the time. Some applauded her restraint; others praised her for delivering what they saw as a perfectly timed dig.
“Omg Camilla is my flipping hero. Sooo much shade. But with soooo much class. Love her,” one user wrote.
“The master of shade, our Camilla. What an asset she has proven herself to be to the RF. Charles is lucky to have her,” another commented.
One viewer observed: “She might be missing Harry, but not his wife.”

Others defended Camilla’s reaction as diplomatic under pressure, especially given the sensitive timing of the question.
“I think this question at this moment was ill-timed and inappropriate,” one user noted. “The duchess was great. She probably did not expect such a question and was polite. Sometimes you don’t need to say much.”
How does Prince Harry feel about Camilla?
Recently, Prince Harry sat down for a BBC interview, where he expressed a desire to reconnect with his family.
“I would love reconciliation with my family,” Harry said in the interview at the start of May. “There’s no point continuing to fight anymore. Life is precious. I don’t know how much longer my father has.”
But despite the olive branch, Camilla, alongside Prince William and Princess Kate, is reportedly opposed to any reconciliation.
According to palace insiders, Camilla’s reluctance is believed to stem from the deeply personal criticisms levelled at her in Spare – Harry’s 2023 tell-all memoir.
In the book, Harry accused Camilla of playing the “long game” to become Queen. He also claimed that she traded stories with the press in the early days of her romance with the now King Charles.
“I had complex feelings about gaining a step-parent who, I believed, had recently sacrificed me on her personal PR altar,” Harry wrote. “In a funny way, I even wanted Camilla to be happy. Maybe she’d be less dangerous if she was happy?”
Royal experts believe that these comments deeply strained any chance of closeness between Harry and Camilla going forward.
