An update has reportedly been shared on King Charles and his cancer treatment amid his two-day visit to Canada.

King Charles, 76, and Queen Camilla, 77, arrived in Canada’s capital Ottawa yesterday (May 26) for their visit, marking the king’s first official trip to Canada since ascending the throne.

The brief but momentous tour comes as the monarch continues to undergo treatment for cancer.

Despite these health challenges, royal sources emphasise the visit is designed to be short and focused, balancing the king’s medical needs with his commitment to duty.

King Charles cancer update amid Canada trip

“It’s challenging, less than 36 hours door to door,” one insider told the MailOnline. “But although it feels very short and intense, that’s actually the best way to handle it. The king and queen will hit the ground running, cram in as much as they possibly can, all without even noticing the time difference. And the team will have him back in the UK for his regular scheduled [cancer] treatment as usual.”

The king had initially hoped for a longer visit last year, but a combination of his cancer diagnosis and the Canadian electoral cycle delayed those plans.

According to a source, a more extensive tour remains on the table for the future: “This [short visit] does not preclude the possibility of a longer royal tour of Canada in due course.”

The couple’s visit reflects the deep-rooted ties between the monarchy and Canada.

The first day of their visit on Monday (May 26) saw King Charles and Queen Camilla meet with the Governor General of Canada, Mary Simon, and Prime Minister Mark Carney.

A milestone moment saw Queen Camilla formally sworn in as a member of the Canadian Privy Council.

The royal couple also planted a tree in the gardens of Rideau Hall, near the sugar maple they planted during their last Canadian tour in 2017.

Their first day concluded with a reception attended by Lieutenant Governors from all 10 provinces and Territorial Commissioners from Canada’s three territories.

On day two, King Charles will fulfill his constitutional role as Canada’s Head of State by attending the State Opening of Parliament.

Accompanied by Queen Camilla, the king will deliver the Speech from the Throne in the Senate Chamber.

This will mark only the second time in history that a sovereign has opened Canada’s Parliament. The first was Queen Elizabeth II in 1957. It will also be the third time a sovereign has delivered a Speech from the Throne.

As one royal source put it to the Mail: “There is no other world leader like him. Who is head of state of 14 countries.”

The visit will conclude with a wreath-laying ceremony at The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the National War Memorial. This pays tribute to Canada’s fallen heroes.

King Charles and Queen Camilla’s packed itinerary reflects the monarchy’s enduring commitment to duty, despite the king’s ongoing health challenges.
