Meet King Charles' 'mysterious' personal bodyguard who leaves royal fans swooning
King Charles' mysterious bearded bodyguard has been seen shadowing him at public events
King Charles’ personal bodyguard has become an unexpected online sensation, captivating fans with his mysterious presence and impressive beard.
The king, 76, is never far from the watchful eyes of his tight-knit security team. But one mysterious member of his entourage has become something of an internet sensation, and fans can’t get enough.
Ever since Queen Elizabeth II’s death in September 2022, royal watchers have been captivated by this particular bearded bodyguard, who has been spotted faithfully shadowing the monarch at major royal events.
From walkabouts outside Buckingham Palace to public visits like the Coronation Food Project hub in Deptford during the king’s 76th birthday celebrations, he has earned himself a fan base all of his own.

King Charles’ personal bodyguard
The bodyguard’s identity has not been officially revealed.
However, his imposing presence, stoic demeanour and impressive white beard have led many fans to affectionately nickname him “the Kingsman”.
This is a reference to Colin Firth’s secret agent character Harry Hart in the Kingsman films.
“The man to right of King Charles is ‘The White Bearded Kingsman’,” one Twitter user previously tweeted. “Legend has it that the king’s bodyguard can take you out within a blink of an eye.”
The comparisons only grew stronger when he was spotted carrying a distinctive black umbrella. Fans dubbed it a potential “gunbrella”, as a sly reference to the movie franchise’s gadget-laden umbrellas.
“That thing he’s holding is a GUNbrella, not an umbrella,” one fan joked on Twitter.
“I love him! He needs to be the next James Bond. Such an amazing guy,” another gushed.
“Does he give beard maintenance tips?” A third fan tweeted.

He also sparked social media reaction during one outing with the king. As the king stepped out in the wake of Queen Elizabeth II’s death in September 2022, the bodyguard gently told the crowd to put their phones away.
The clip, shared widely on social media, sparked praise for the guard’s quiet authority and ability to maintain a respectful atmosphere around the king.
Meanwhile, in April 2025, one royal fan shared a photo of Charles’ bodyguard at the Maundy Thursday Service. They wrote: “There’s something quintessentially British – almost as if a scene from a Kingsman film – about the king’s bodyguard, brandishing an umbrella while giving a stern look during today’s Maundy Service.”
Fans gushed in the replies section, with one person saying: “He is magnificent!”
Another wrote: “He’s got ‘don’t mess with me’ written all over him! I wouldn’t.”

Do King Charles’ bodyguards wear fake hands?
As with many royal stories, the mystery surrounding the bodyguard has fuelled a swirl of wild rumours.
Some fans have even speculated that the king’s security team wear fake hands.
This theory previously went viral after some eagle-eyed watchers claimed the guards’ rigid stances were a cover for concealing hidden weapons.
However, security expert Will Geddes, with nearly 30 years of experience, debunked this theory in an interview with Metro.
“They definitely aren’t fake hands,” he explained. “It isn’t a tactic that is used at all in the UK. There might be all sorts of other tricks and stunts that security officers use to make sure high-profile individuals are kept safe, but this wouldn’t be one of them.”
Due to his high-profile role, this unnamed bodyguard has become an unlikely heartthrob among royal fans.
His dedication to protecting the king, coupled with his cool demeanour and sharp appearance, has only added to his growing mystique.
