Meghan Markle had a “private moment” at the grave of Princess Diana, Prince Harry previously revealed.

The late Princess of Wales is buried on the Althorp estate – her childhood home. Althorp has been making headlines this week after a farmhouse on the estate was allegedly targeted by “vandals”. Diana’s brother Charles Spencer spoke out on Wednesday, calling the incident “disturbing”.

Diana, who died in August 1997 aged 36, was buried on the estate due to Charles’ concerns over public safety and security. Both Prince William and brother Harry have visited their mother’s grave over the years.

And in one moment in 2017, Harry took his then girlfriend Meghan to Diana’s grave.

Prince Harry detailed the moment in his 2023 tell-all book Spare.

The Duke of Sussex wrote about how he and Meghan went to visit his mother’s grave on the 20th anniversary of her death.

Princess Diana is buried on an island on the Althorp Estate in Northampton.

He and Meghan rowed out to the island to visit her grave.

After paying his own respects, Prince Harry sensed that Meghan wanted to take a private moment.

“When I returned, she was on her knees with her eyes closed and her palms flat against the stone,” he wrote.

Meghan later told him she’d asked Diana for “clarity and guidance”.

Althorp farmhouse targeted by ‘vandals’ in suspected arson attack

More recently, Diana’s brother Charles Spencer spoke out following a fire incident on the Althorp estate.

On his X (formerly Twitter) account, Charles wrote: “Stunned to learn that one of the @AlthorpHouse’s farmhouses – fortunately, unoccupied at the time – was apparently burnt down by vandals last night.

“With thanks to @northantsfire for doing their very best. So very sad that anyone would think this is a fun thing to do.”

On Wednesday (May 28), he shared a photo of the fire at the farmhouse. Charles wrote: “Luckily unoccupied at the time – but still deeply disturbing that one of your farmhouses was torched by vandals last night.”

Where is Princess Diana actually buried?

Princess Diana is buried on an island in the middle of Oval Lake within the grounds of her childhood home at Althorp.

After her funeral, Charles said in a statement: “It has been decided to bury Diana, Princess of Wales, in the grounds of Althorp Park, where her grave can be properly looked after by her family and visited in privacy by her sons.”

Previously speaking to the BBC about Diana’s burial place, Charles said: “There was such a whipped up feeling of emotion everywhere that I was very worried about where we could safely bury her.”

Are you allowed to visit Princess Diana grave?

Diana’s grave on the island is not accessible to the public. However, it can be viewed from a distance and there is an opportunity to leave flowers at a nearby memorial.
