Princess Diana's sibling's damning 'verdict' on Meghan Markle as Prince Harry left 'disappointed'
Prince Harry reportedly turned to his aunts and uncle after the loss of his mother...
According to a royal biographer, Prince Harry tried to ease Meghan Markle into his family by comparing her to Princess Diana.
The Duke of Sussex allegedly tried to highlight the similarities Meghan supposedly shares with his late mother. Unsurprisingly, this didn’t go down well…

Princess Diana’s siblings ‘weren’t sure’ about Meghan Markle
Due to Princess Diana’s tragic death in 1997, the prince never got the chance to introduce his mother to his future wife Meghan Markle.
After such a devastating loss, Harry has been candid about his difficulty coping with grief.
He has previously admitted to not dealing with his emotions about the loss of his mother until he was 28.
At the time, he felt like he was “on the verge of punching someone”. The prince also struggled with anxious feelings during official engagements.
Three people who were also deeply affected by the death of Princess Diana were her three siblings, Lady Sarah McCorquodale, Lady Jane Fellowes and Charles Spencer.
In late 2017, unable to turn to his mother, Prince Harry reportedly went to his aunts and uncle to introduce Meghan.

Prince Harry ‘turned to Princess Diana’s family for approval’
Unfortunately, royal biographer Tom Bower claimed in his book, Revenge: Meghan, Harry, and the War Between the Windsors, that Princess Diana’s siblings weren’t completely convinced by Markle.
Bower penned: “Harry assumed that Diana’s family and friends would see a similarity between Diana and his fiancée. Both, he said, shared the same problems. He was so disappointed.
“No one agreed that his vulnerable mother had anything in common with his girlfriend.”
Bower went on to claim: “More discomforting for him, they thought Meghan would not fit in with the royal family.”

Charles Spencer’s ‘concerns’ about the Duchess of Sussex
Instead of the sisters sharing their concerns, Diana’s brother Charles, who had been married three times, allegedly spoke up.
He apparently urged his nephew to slow things down when it came to marriage.
“His advice provoked a bitter reaction,” Bower claimed.
Despite this, Harry has since tried to highlight Meghan and Diana’s supposed similarities.

Prince Harry on similarities Meghan Markle ‘shares’ with Princess Diana
In the 2022 Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan, Harry said: “So much of what Meghan is and how she is, is so similar to my mum. She has the same compassion, the same empathy, the same confidence.”
He gushed: “She has this warmth about her.”
Since the death of Diana in 1997, her siblings have continued to support both William and Harry.
Despite William and Harry’s alleged rift, they seem to be consistent when it comes to showing up for their nephews.
Lady Sarah McCorquodale, Lady Jane Fellowes and their brother Earl Spencer were on the guest list for Archie’s small christening in 2019.
Earl Spencer has also publicly defended Prince Harry on social media, supporting his legal battles and other challenges.
Meanwhile, Prince Harry, in a recent interview with the BBC, appeared to confirm he is still not on talking terms with his brother.

Would Princess Diana like Meghan Markle?
Although Diana’s siblings seemed to have disapproved at first, Harry has insisted multiple times that Princess Diana would have loved his wife.
In fact, he previously told the BBC that he thought Diana would have been “over the moon” about his relationship with Meghan.
Prince Harry isn’t alone in his thoughts. Edward White, the author of Dianaworld, said that he believes Diana would have supported Meghan if she saw how happy Harry is with her and their children.
In his book, he wrote: “Meghan has this preternatural force to advance herself, she’s got strategies and plans. With Diana, it was all improvised and haphazard.

“But I think if Diana felt that Meghan made her son happy, she’d have been well disposed towards her. And Meghan and the two children seem to have brought Harry much more happiness than being a member of the royal family did.”
Richard Kay, a friend of the late princess and Editor at Large of the Daily Mail, has also shared similar sentiments. He said on the Royal Confidential podcast: “I think she would have liked Meghan’s independence and the fact that she was able to offer Harry an escape route, if you like, from royal duty.”
Elsewhere, Sarah Ferguson, mother of Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie and friend to Diana, claimed that the late Princess of Wales would have been “so proud of her sons and the grandchildren”.
Royal Insider has contacted Harry and Meghan’s representatives for comment.
