Queen Elizabeth II and her husband Prince Philip once reportedly had a heated moment during a royal tour a few years after they got married.

Let’s go back to 1954, when the queen, then 27, and the Duke of Edinburgh, then 32, embarked on a royal tour to Australia.

During the tour, the couple – who tied the knot a few years earlier in 1947 – enjoyed a rare weekend off. But they were reportedly trailed by a camera crew as a documentary was being filmed about the visit.

Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip’s ‘row’ on Australia tour

According to royal author Ingrid Seward’s 2020 biography Prince Philip Revealed, a camera operated witnessed Philip charging out of the couple’s chalet.

Ingrid claimed that Philip’s actions were “followed by a flying pair of tennis shoes and a racket and a very angry Queen shouting for him to come back”.

She claimed: “Then the indignant Queen grabbed hold of her husband and dragged him back inside.”

Apparently, there was a silence before a royal press secretary told the crew to shut off the cameras.

Later, the queen reportedly came out to meet with the crew and thank them.

According to the book, Queen Elizabeth II said: “I am sorry for that little interlude. But as you know it happens in every marriage. Now, what would you like me to do?”

How long were Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip married?

The queen and Prince Philip were married for 73 years. They tied the knot on November 20, 1947 at Westminster Abbey.

They were married up until Philip’s death on April 9, 2021. The queen died just over a year later on September 8, 2022.

The Duke of Edinburgh was by his wife’s side during her incredible 70-year reign.

Then the indignant Queen grabbed hold of her husband and dragged him back inside.

And she was by his side on his deathbed in April 2021. It’s believed the queen was at his bedside as he died “peacefully” at Windsor Castle.

Sophie Wessex, now the Duchess of Edinburgh, spoke about Philip’s death days after he passed away with reporters following a chapel service.

Prince Philip’s death was ‘peaceful’

Sophie, who is married to the queen and Philip’s youngest son Prince Edward, said: “It was right for him and, you know, it was so gentle. It was like someone took him by the hand, and then he went.

“Very, very peaceful and that’s all you want for somebody, isn’t it?”

In September 2022, the queen died at Balmoral Castle at the age of 96. Her eldest son, Charles, then became king. His coronation, alongside his wife Queen Camilla, took place in May 2023.
