Meghan Markle branded 'too precious and serious' by Hollywood icon Brooke Shields
Brooke appeared at a speaking event last year with Meghan
Hollywood star Brooke Shields has addressed interrupting a “too precious and serious” Meghan Markle when she was in full flow, according to reports.
Blue Lagoon actress Brooke, 60, and the Duchess of Sussex appeared on an International Woman’s Day panel together last year.
During her speaking appearance at the South by Southwest Festival event, Meghan retold an anecdote about how she wrote to Procter and Gamble when she was a child to complain about a dishwashing soap advert. However, it seems Brooke felt Meghan’s story wasn’t enthralling the audience – and shut Meghan down.

Brooke Shields recalls ‘interrupting’ Meghan Markle
Meghan’s story, which has been reportedly repeated on several occasions including in Vanity Fair in 2017, involves her contacting the multinational goods company when she was 11. She has recalled how she was moved to embark on a letter-writing campaign due to sexism in a cleaning product’s advertising suggesting: “Mothers around America are fighting greasy pots and pans.”
As the anecdote goes, Meghan asked for the advert to be changed to “people all over America”, which was subsequently implemented.
However, it seems film legend Brooke was of the opinion that Meghan may have been taking herself a little too seriously.

Brooke Shields calls Meghan ‘too precious’
Speaking to King Charles’ goddaughter India Hicks for a podcast chat, Brooke recalled: “Meghan said, ‘I didn’t think only women wash dishes.’
“‘It wasn’t fair. So I wrote to the company. And when I was 11, I wrote my first letter and when I was 11…’. And she kept saying she was 11!”
Brooke went on to suggest observers may not have been completely captivated by Meghan’s account of her approach to P&G.
“It was just too precious,” she added.
They’re not going to want to sit here for 45 minutes and listen to anybody be precious or serious.
“And I was like, they’re not going to want to sit here for 45 minutes and listen to anybody be precious or serious.”

Brooke went on to mention she didn’t intend to be “rude” to Meghan. But she did interject in the hope of lightening the mood in the room.
Brooke added she said at the time: “‘Excuse me, I’m so sorry. I’ve got to interrupt you there for one minute.’ I was trying not to be rude. But I wanted to be funny because it was so serious.
“‘I just want to give everybody here a context as to how we’re different,’ she told the crowd.”

According to reports, Brooke also garnered laughs from those in attendance by referencing how she played a child prostitute in 1978 film Pretty Baby when she herself was 11.
Brooke noted: “The place went insane. And then luckily, it was more relaxed after that.”
