King Charles reportedly made a confession about feeling “tearful” during the 2024 Trooping the Colour, according to a lip reader.

In June 2024, the king, 76, stepped out with senior members of the royal family for the annual Trooping the Colour ceremony. The event marks the monarch’s official birthday with a military parade.

This year will mark King Charles‘ third birthday parade since becoming monarch in September 2022.

Last year’s ceremony came during a difficult period for the king following his cancer diagnosis.

In June 2024, members of the royal family attended Trooping the Colour. King Charles’ appearance at the event came a few months after he announced his cancer diagnosis with the world.

His daughter-in-law Kate, Princess of Wales, had also made her first major public appearance at the event following her own cancer diagnosis. She announced her diagnosis in March 2024. The Princess of Wales is now in remission after undergoing treatment last year.

Oh dear, I don’t know why I’m feeling rather tearful.

During the military parade, the king was seen travelling by carriage with his wife Queen Camilla.

At the time, lip reader Nicola Hickling shared what Charles seemingly said to Camilla in the carriage. Speaking to the Mirror, Nicola claimed the king said: “Oh dear, I don’t know why I’m feeling rather tearful.”

King Charles ‘wont ride horseback’ at birthday parade

Trooping the Colour returns this weekend (Saturday, June 14). But according to reports, we won’t be seeing the king riding horseback at the parade.

At his first Trooping the Colour as monarch in 2023, King Charles took the salute on horseback. It was the first time a monarch had appeared at the parade on horseback since the last time Queen Elizabeth II did so in 1986.

Last year, amid his cancer treatment, Charles rode in a carriage instead.

According to The Times, the king may do the same this year and might give up the tradition completely.

What is Trooping the Colour?

Trooping the Colour is an annual royal event which sees members of the royal family step out for a military parade.

The event has marked the monarch’s official birthday for more than 260 years.

Over 1400 parading soldiers, 200 horses and 400 musicians come together each June for the incredible parade.

The event also sees members of the royal family gather on the balcony of Buckingham Palace to watch an RAF flypast.

The moment has given us some of the best royal moments over the years, including cute glimpses of the royal children.

Royal fans are expecting the same this year, with many hoping to see the younger generation of the monarchy appear.
