Trooping the Colour takes place every year as fans gear up to see the royals out on the palace balcony – but let’s be honest, we’re all just hoping Prince Louis is going to cause mischief!

The young prince, seven, has been at the centre of many hilarious and adorable moments at the event since making his debut in 2019.

Trooping the Colour is the king’s official birthday parade.

From spats with his older siblings to a touching moment with his great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II, let’s look at Prince Louis’ best Trooping the Colour moments from over the years.

Prince Louis gives his best royal wave at his Trooping the Colour debut

In June 2019, Prince Louis made his Trooping the Colour debut. And it was the cutest moment ever.

The youngster was just over one at the time and joined his parents Prince William and Kate and his older siblings Prince George and Princess Charlotte on the Buckingham Palace balcony.

Looking super cute in blue shorts and white shirt, Louis stole the show by giving his best royal wave to the roaring crowds below. William and Kate found his antics amusing as they laughed as Louis’ hand waved enthusiastically.

A few years later in June 2022, Prince Louis became an internet sensation thanks to his antics at Trooping the Colour.

The event marked Queen Elizabeth II’s platinum jubilee – and her final Trooping the Colour appearance before her death in September that year.

During the event, Louis certainly made sure all cameras were focused on him as he pulled faces, put his hands over his ears as the RAF flypast roared above the palace and even shared a touching moment with his great-grandmother.

He even stuck his tongue out when riding in a carriage with his siblings George and Charlotte as he waved to the crowds.

Trooping the Colour 2023

The following year, Prince Louis didn’t disappoint again.

2023’s Trooping the Colour saw funny faces and expressions once again from Louis.

He was seen putting an unique spin on his royal wave, using both of his hands.

He was also seen pumping his fists in the air as the RAF planes flew above.

But in other moments, it seems the extravagance of royalty got the better of Louis as he was seen yawning. He also gave a salute on the balcony!

In another sweet moment, Louis was seen smiling with his head in both of his hands as he rested on the balcony.

Prince Louis at Trooping the Colour 2024

Last year, fans waited to see a glimpse of Prince Louis and hoped he would bring his usual antics to the balcony. And he did!

It was a symbolic moment for the royals as both King Charles and the Princess of Wales made an appearance following their cancer diagnoses.

And once again, Prince Louis stole the show with his expressions and behaviour on the balcony. In one photo, he was seen burying his face in his hand, looking rather bored by the parade!

Another moment saw him throw his head back as he closed his eyes.

Princess Charlotte ‘telling off’ Louis

There was also a moment where Princess Charlotte stepped into big sister mode with Louis.

As Louis did what he does best and provided the crowd with funny expressions, Charlotte appeared to tell Louis something to make him calm down.

Then, as Charlotte, Louis, George and mum Kate watched the military parade from an open window, a lip reader decoded what was apparently said between Charlotte and Louis.

Speaking to the Mirror, lip reader Nicola Hickling claimed that as Louis danced, Charlotte told him: “You have to stop doing that. Watch the parade.”

But Louis bit back: “I won’t.”

Charlotte then apparently said: “Do as you’re told,” to which Louis reportedly replied: “Nope.”

All we can hope is that Prince Louis brings us more of these moments at Trooping the Colour 2025 this weekend!
