Trooping the Colour: Prince Harry's 'words' to 'nervous' Meghan Markle during her debut
Trooping the Colour 2025 takes place this weekendPrince Harry reportedly calmed Meghan Markle on the Buckingham Palace balcony at her first Trooping the Colour.
The annual royal event happens every June and marks the monarch’s official birthday with a parade. The 2025 ceremony takes place this Saturday (June 14).
King Charles is expected to lead senior royals at the parade, including Queen Camilla and the Prince and Princess of Wales.
In 2018, Meghan made her debut at Trooping the Colour alongside her new husband Harry. They had married the month prior.
Was Meghan at Trooping the Colour?
Meghan made her Trooping the Colour debut in June 2018. It came just days after her wedding to Harry in Windsor.
She wore a stunning pale pink off-the-shoulder dress and matching hat.
At the event each year, a military parade takes place before members of the royal family gather on the Buckingham Palace balcony to view an RAF flypast.
Then there’s the flypast and then we all look up to the sky.
It was during the balcony moment that Harry reportedly reassured his “nervous” wife.
As reported by the Mirror at the time, a lip reader claimed that Harry asked Meghan: “Okay?”
Meghan apparently replied: “Yeah, are you?” before saying she felt “nervous”.
Prince Harry ‘reassures’ Meghan Markle at Trooping the Colour
According to the publication, Harry then said to Meghan: “When you get into it I’ll tell you more later.”
He then added: “Then there’s the flypast and then we all look up to the sky.”
Meghan reportedly replied: “Alright.”
Prince Harry spoke about Meghan’s first Trooping the Colour appearance in his 2023 memoir Spare.
He claimed that Meghan’s funny quip about the ceremony was met with a “yawning silence” from their sister-in-law Kate, Princess of Wales.
Meghan met with ‘yawning silence’ after joke
In Spare, Harry recalled the moment when Kate reportedly asked Meghan for her thoughts on her first Trooping the Colour experience.
Meghan responded with a playful quip: “Colourful.”
But instead of laughter, Harry claimed, there was silence.

“A yawning silence threatened to swallow us all whole,” he wrote, as reported by HELLO!.
Meghan and Harry’s appearance at Trooping the Colour the following year in 2019 marked their last as working royals. They stepped back from their senior royal roles in early 2020. They now live in California.
In 2022, the couple attended Trooping the Colour to mark Queen Elizabeth II’s platinum jubilee celebrations. However, they didn’t appear on the balcony and instead reportedly watched the parade from a VIP area.
The palace explained that the queen had decided only to have working royals on the balcony with her. Prince Andrew also didn’t appear on the balcony after he stepped back from duties in 2019.
