Prince William has reportedly “long held a grudge” against his uncle Prince Andrew, for some time. Now, it seems his father, King Charles has ‘picked a side’ in the feud between the pair.

Experts have revealed the heir to the throne has ‘plans’ to exile his uncle when he succeeds his father, and The Firm’s reputation is the sole reason.

But the strained relationship reportedly began when Andrew was ‘cold’ to his future wife Kate Middleton. Since then, Prince William has apparently held a grudge against his scandal-hit uncle Andrew.

Why Prince William ‘long held a grudge’ against Prince Andrew

Royal commentator Richard Kay discussed the situation in a piece for the Daily Mail in 2024. The piece focused on William’s tough 2024 following wife Kate and father King Charles’ cancer battles.

It detailed how Prince William, 42, had supported his father through the troubled year, and stepped up even more with royal duties.

William has long held a grudge against Andrew for being unwelcoming.

However, despite the father and son having many similar beliefs on running the monarchy, Richard explained they share differences when it comes to Andrew.

He said: “Differences between monarch and heir do remain, especially when it comes to the Prince Andrew scandal. William has long held a grudge against Andrew for being unwelcoming when he first introduced the then Kate Middleton to the royal family and feels that his father has been too soft on him.

“It has led to speculation that it is William who is pushing his father to evict the Duke of York from Royal Lodge, so the Waleses could move in.

“But, as a friend of the couple noted, taking on Royal Lodge would mean a transformation in the way they lead their lives.”

King Charles ‘picks a side’

The royal family have had a busy summer, with VE Day, Trooping the Colour, Order of the Garter Service and Royal Ascot.

It seems King Charles has ‘picked a side’ when it comes to William’s grudge against Prince Andrew, according to a royal source.

Charles’ brother was excluded from the Garter Day ceremony, held on June 17. It was the fourth year running where he wasn’t involved in the service, and he also did not attend Trooping the Colour days before.

Although his daughters, Princess Eugenie and Princes Beatrice also didn’t attend the King’s birthday parade, Eugenie was seen at Royal Ascot.

While he was ordered to refrain from public duties, Prince Andrew remains a Garter Knight, and has been since 2006 whereas William became a Knight of the garter two years later.

But a source told The Express that Andrew was invited to a private ceremony behind closed doors, as a compromise.

How does Prince William feel about Prince Andrew?

Prince William holds a ‘grudge’ against his uncle Prince Andrew to this day, experts say. It comes weeks after reports the future king will make a decision over his uncle when he ascends to the throne.

Hilary Fordwich, a royal expert, told Fox News, that: “Prince William has long had a strained and distant relationship with Andrew.”

She explained the heir is wary over The Firm’s reputation and doesn’t want the royal to spoil that.

She added: “Every public opinion poll has Andrew at the bottom, reinforcing Prince William’s stance. Once king, no doubt, Prince William will ensure Andrew is completely excluded from royal life, as well as all public appearances.

“Andrew’s future within the royal family is beyond bleak, since Prince William is firmly opposed to any public rehabilitation with no foreseeable path back. He wants Andrew to vanish from public view.”

Prince Andrew and the Royal Lodge drama

The king and Andrew have reportedly rowed over Royal Lodge, as well. Andrew wants to remain at the residence, which he moved into in 2004. However, King Charles apparently wants him out.

Despite this, he remains there and continues to live his life away from the public eye. According to royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams, Andrew likely had a “small gathering” to mark a special occasion.

Richard told Royal Insider Prince Andrew likely celebrated his birthday at Royal Lodge: “Sarah Ferguson, his ex-wife, remains devoted and the Yorks are a close-knit family. Expect [Andrew’s daughters] Beatrice and Eugenie to be supportive in whatever way they can.

“This is not likely to be marked in any way by the royal family. No doubt greetings may be sent privately.”

As it stands, Andrew is still residing at Royal Lodge.
