Cruel rumours claim Prince Harry is in hospital after an overdose following royal's confession
The Duke of Sussex opened up about his drug use in his memoir Spare...Baseless rumours have targeted Prince Harry, claiming he is in hospital for an overdose, but what’s the real story?
The cruel false narrative were first shared online by unverified YouTube channels and X (Twitter) posts, but there is no truth in it.
They targeted the royal after he admitted to illegal drug use in his memoir Spare, which was released in January 2023. Because of this, some royal fans have been tricked into thinking the rumours Prince Harry had an overdose and was rushed to hospital were true.
We take a look at the hurtful claims to put the record straight, while revealing what the Duke of Sussex actually said about using illegal substances.

Cruel claims Prince Harry is in the hospital after an overdose
It’s not clear who started the rumours, but there is no evidence Prince Harry is in hospital for an overdose. They seem to have been created from unverified YouTube videos and Twitter (X) posts. There has not been any statement from the royal family nor representatives for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle over rumours he is in hospital for an overdose.
Further claim a well-known royal commentator, Lady Colin Campbell, added fuel to the fire or that she heard the reports from her ‘sources’. But the commentator, referred to as Lady C, has not published any of this on her own platforms nor in interviews with credible news outlets.
Due to the Duke’s past drug use being known, royal fans were duped into thinking there was truth behind the claims.
Not only that, but he has been seen in recent days. This includes Harry sharing a speech for Germany’s inaugural Veteran’s Day where he spoke in perfect German on June 15.
Prior to that, the Sussexes took their children to Disneyland to celebrate Princess Lilibet’s fourth birthday earlier that month. Meghan Markle also shared a video montage for her husband to celebrate Father’s Day. It’s clear Prince Harry is attending events and making appearances, not in hospital for an alleged overdose. These are just baseless rumours.

Fans react to the baseless rumours
Users went to social media in an attempt to find out the truth – that they were just baseless rumours.
One wrote: “Prince Harry at the hospital due to an overdose? I don’t believe it .”
Another said: “Where did you hear that? I’ve not seen it online.”
A third added: “Sadly I have seen many sensational video titles. Always wary of those, and frequently they’re clickbait.”
While a fourth penned: “I don’t believe it either.”

Duke of Sussex’s memoir
In his controversial book, the dad-of-two confessed to regularly using illegal substances. He described how in 2015, he smoked marijuana while living in the grounds of Kensington Palace. He also admitted using cocaine, marijuana, psychedelics like ayahuasca, as well as drinking alcohol.
It caused a stir after it was released, especially when a right wing thinking based in Washington DC filed a lawsuit in a bid to release the royal’s visa documents.
They wanted to know if Harry received special treatment over his visa forms if he declared he had taken illegal substances, or if he omitted the information altogether.
When it came to a head, the documents were revealed, but so much were redacted due to privacy and security measures, the think tank was none the wiser.
At the time, the group, The Heritage Foundation, said: “The Duke of Sussex did so despite the fact that it is widely known that such admissions can have adverse immigration consequences for non-citizens and despite employing preeminent legal advisors on both sides of the Atlantic.”

Prince Harry received backlash from mother whose son died from overdose
Two months after the Duke of Sussex released his bombshell memoir, he received backlash from a mother. A drugs education campaigner, whose teenage son died from an MDMA overdose, criticised Prince Harry. She slammed the royal for saying the use of illegal substances helped his mental health.
Fiona Spargo-Mabbs OBE feared the royal’s comments sent the wrong message to young people.
It came after Harry made more comments during a live interview with Dr Gabor Mate, who wrote The Myth of Normal: Trauma, Illness & Healing In A Toxic Culture.
During the clip, he said: “[Cocaine] didn’t do anything for me, it was more a social thing and gave me a sense of belonging for sure, I think it probably also made me feel different to the way I was feeling, which was kind of the point.
“Marijuana is different, that actually really did help me.”

Fiona’s son, Daniel, passed away in 2014 after an accidental overdose of ecstasy while out with friends, and she slammed Prince Harry’s comments.
She told ITV news: “Given this context, Prince Harry’s comments about using drugs as a way of dealing with past trauma could easily be misconstrued as being true across the board.
