Prince William set for overseas visit to support Lionesses following backlash
The Lionesses kick off their campaign next weekendWilliam, Prince of Wales, will be heading to Switzerland to support the Lionesses at the European Championships this summer, it has been revealed.
The Lionesses will be looking to defend their Euros crown at this summer’s tournament, which kicks off next weekend.

Prince William to watch Lionesses in Switzerland
Next Saturday (July 5) will see England Women play France at the European Championships.
Last time the Lionesses played in the Euros, they won the whole competition, beating Germany 2-1 in the final.
Since then, they have reached a World Cup final, which they narrowly lost 1-0 to Spain back in 2023.
Prince William, who is a Patron of the Football Association (FA), came under fire back in 2023 after failing to watch England Women play in the World Cup Final.
However, it’s worth noting that the final took place in Australia, a 23-hour flight from the UK.

William’s apology
He did, however, issue a message apologising for not being able to attend the final.
Sitting next to Princess Charlotte, he said in an Instagram video at the time: “Lionesses, I want to send you a huge good luck for tomorrow. We’re sorry we can’t be there in person but we’re so proud of everything you have achieved and the millions you have inspired here and around the world.
“So go out there tomorrow and really enjoy yourselves.”
Princess Charlotte then added: “Good luck, Lionesses.”

William’s plans for Euro 2025
Now it’s being reported that Prince William will be jetting over to Switzerland with the hope of watching at least one of England’s group stage matches.
The Prince of Wales is also reportedly hoping to watch additional fixtures depending on his royal commitments.
“He is looking forward to supporting the team and wishing them good luck,” a spokesperson for the prince told The Sun.
The prince is also expected to meet with the Lionesses before their flight to Switzerland, offering them his best wishes before the tournament.
England will kick off their tournament against France next Saturday in Zurich, followed by a game against the Netherlands, again in the capital city.
They will then play their final group game against Wales on July 13 in St Gallen.

It’s a well-known fact that Prince William is a huge football fan.
The Prince of Wales regularly attends matches to watch his beloved Aston Villa play. The Birmingham-based team were playing in the Champions League last season, which meant a couple of trips abroad for William to go and watch them.
He even took Prince George along to watch their game against PSG back in April.
He is looking forward to supporting the team and wishing them good luck.
The Prince of Wales also regularly attends England games for both the men’s and women’s teams.
He was at the Euro final in 2024 when England lost to Spain 2-1, and was also in attendance at the 2021 final too when they lost to Italy.
The future king was also present when England Women won the Euro final back in 2022.
