Marvel Studios ‘pays huge sum’ to royal family

Apparently, the studio has big plans to film its latest blockbuster at Windsor Great Park.

This lush green scenery is set on The Crown’s Windsor estate and is just a stones throw away from Windsor Castle.

The royal setting, made up of ancient forests, lakes and gardens, will reportedly host 300 cast and crew members during filming.

A source has alleged just how greatly the situation benefits all parties involved.

The money will go to the upkeep of Windsor Great Park.

According to The Sun, the insider claimed: “Several million pounds is chicken feed to Marvel when their movies make billions. But the money will go to the upkeep of Windsor Great Park so the king of course has a keen interest.”

They added: “Some of the profits of Crown Estates make their way to the royal family. So it’s a win-win for everyone.”

You might wonder whether the king, 76, could cross paths with some of Marvel’s A-list cast members like Chris Hemsworth who plays Thor or Sir Ian McKellen who depicts Magneto?

Well, reports claim that King Charles, who is Ranger of Windsor Great Park, is aware of the upcoming filming.

However, the monarch is set to be on his Balmoral estate in Scotland during filming.

Royal family latest

It isn’t much of a surprise that royal estate would welcome Marvel to their grounds as the studio is known for its jaw-dropping success.

Marvel multiverse movie Avengers: Endgame is the second highest-grossing movie of all time. Consequently, the 2019 movie proved pretty lucrative to say the least, raking in a shocking $2.7 billion worldwide.

The Disney-owned studios is said to be paying a fortune for the privilege to film at Windsor, with the sum going towards the maintenance of the park.

Windsor Great Park is owned by Crown Estate and the king reportedly gets 25 per cent of its annual profits, making the collaboration quite a payday for the monarch.

Not only that, but it means the royals could get a sneak peek at what is next in the Marvel universe.

“The royal family may even be persuaded to pop by and have a look at Thor in action,” the source added.

The royal family’s interest in film

Evidently, the chance of getting a behind-the-scenes look into the film industry is probably very appealing to the royals.

Several members of the family share great interests in film. Charles is patron of the British Film Institute. He even appeared at the premiere of Gladiator II last year.

Meanwhile, his son and heir to the throne Prince William has been President of BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts)  since 2010.

In 2023, William and wife Kate even took their children George and Charlotte to meet the cast and crew of Lord of the Rings telly spin-off, The Rings of Power.

The couple also revealed that their youngest Prince Louis’ favourite superhero is Marvel’s Spider-Man.

Royal Insider has contacted Buckingham Palace for comment.
