Prince Charles and Princess Diana‘s relationship may have suffered infidelity, a bombshell interview and a tragic end, but King Charles’ tale will always be connected to the late Princess of Wales.

Lady Diana Spencer was first introduced to the heir of the British throne in 1977, by her sister Sara McCorquodale. They were said to have ‘clicked’ right away, and were ‘over the moon’ about the future. But they didn’t begin dating until three years later, and it was a whirlwind romance.

By 1981, they had tied the knot, in a lavish ceremony watched by millions worldwide. The pair were married for 15 years and welcomed two children – Prince William and Prince Harry – during their marriage.

However, it quickly broke down. With reports Charles had never gotten over the love he had for now Queen Camilla, Diana was heartbroken. She famously told the BBC there were ‘three’ people in her marriage, referring to the future Queen Consort. The royal couple divorced in 1996, a year before Diana tragically died in a car crash while in Paris.

While they suffered their highs and lows, we take a look back at moments which prove Charles and Diana were once in love before the breakdown of their relationship and subsequently, their marriage.
