George Clooney and his wife Amal attended a reception at Buckingham Palace, hosted by King Charles, this week.

However, Hollywood star George, 64, has come under fire from one of the king’s former employees over his behaviour at the event.

On Wednesday (June 25), King Charles, 76, hosted a “special reception” for the winners of The King’s Trust Awards 2025. Many famous faces were in attendance.

The king set up The King’s Trust back in 1976 when he was the Prince of Wales. The King’s Trust Awards recognise young people who have improved their own chances in life and had a positive impact on their local community.

Power couple George and Amal, 47, were among the famous faces who attended the reception at the palace on Wednesday.

Another famous couple in attendance was British TV reality stars Jamie Laing and his pregnant wife Sophie Habboo. They have hit headlines after sharing a video from inside the palace walls, showing them doing the “baby mama” dance.

Putting your hands in your pocket or folding them is a defensive gesture.

In a video from the reception, shared to the royal family’s Instagram page, the king was seen speaking with George and Amal.

However, Charles’ former royal butler Grant Harrold has spotted something about George’s appearance in the palace.

He said the actor “breached royal protocol” with his gestures in front of the monarch.

Speaking on behalf of Genting Casino, Grant explained: “George Clooney also breached royal protocol. Look at the video where he’s standing talking to King Charles – he’s got his arms folded.

“Putting your hands in your pocket or folding them is a defensive gesture; it’s not very open, which I don’t think is the best practice in front of royals.

“When you meet the king, normally you would have your hands to your side or behind your back. It’s not the done thing. George has literally got his arms folded as if he’s in some sort of business setting.”

For the reception, George was wearing a light grey suit. Meanwhile, human rights lawyer Amal looked stunning in a black, off-the-shoulder midi dress and heels.
