Princess Diana's 'honest feelings' over Camilla becoming Queen Consort revealed
Camilla was crowned Queen Consort during King Charles' coronation...Princess Diana divorced the then Prince Charles in 1996, a year before her death following a car crash in Paris.
If the couple had stayed together, Princess Diana‘s title would have been known as Queen Consort when King Charles ascended to the throne – like Camilla is now.
However, the royal passed away before seeing her ex-husband marry Camilla Parker-Bowles, and we’ll never know what her feelings would be on that day. But one royal expert says she spoke to the former Princess of Wales about the topic before she died.

Princess Diana ‘would accept Camilla’s Queen Consort title’
When Diana first met Camilla, they got on well. She was introduced to her future husband’s friendship circle, and that included Andrew and Camilla Parker Bowles. But biographer Andrew Morton, through secret tapes recorded, said Diana felt Camilla began ‘working out what was going to be her territory’ after she became engaged to Charles.
The royal later told Martin Bashir that she found it difficult to cope with a husband who “loved someone else.”
But after they separated, and over time, perhaps Princess Diana would accept Camilla’s queen title.
One commentator said she spoke to the royal about the idea of Camilla and Charles. She explained Princess Diana believed Camilla should receive ‘recognition’ and if she were still alive, wouldn’t mind her being queen consort.
Royal expert Jennie Bond told Bella magazine: “In one of my long conversations with Diana, she told me that she thought Camilla had been loyal and discreet and deserved some form of recognition.
“She said she accepted that Camilla was and always will be the love of Charles’ life. I know she said different things to different journalists on different days.
“But that’s what she said to me on one day in 1995. So perhaps this [Camilla’s new title] is the recognition Diana thought Camilla deserved.”

The time Diana ‘confronted’ Charles’ ‘lover’
The friction between Princess Diana and future Queen Camilla began after her marriage to Charles broke down.
Charles and Diana were still united in public but behind palace walls, they were living separate lives. The Princess of Wales was seen confronting Charles’ lover Camilla on season four of The Crown, but a royal biographer says it really happened.
Diana later told the BBC in 1995: “There were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded.”
Ingrid Seward, who penned, My Mother and I: The Inside Story of the King and Our Late Queen, wrote that the princess had ‘more fight in her’ during her relationship with the future king.
She attended Camilla’s sister Annabel’s 40th birthday bash in London and confronted her.

When she arrived, she found Charles and Camilla in another room with a friend.
She reportedly approached them and asked to speak to the future queen consort privately.
It’s reported Diana told her: “Camilla, I would just like you to know that I know exactly what is going on. I obviously am in the way and it must be hell for both of you, but I do know what is going on. Don’t treat me like an idiot.”
Camilla is said to have responded with: “You’ve got everything you ever wanted. You’ve got all the mean in the world falling in love with you and you’ve got two beautiful children. What more do you want?”
“I want my husband,” Diana reportedly clapped back.

Queen’s statement on Camilla’s title
Before her death, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II revealed her wish for Camilla when Charles takes over the throne.
In a statement to mark her Platinum Jubilee, the Queen said she felt “blessed” to have Prince Philip as a partner “willing to carry out the role of consort”.
The monarch added: “It is a role I saw my own mother perform during my father’s reign.
“When, in the fullness of time, my son Charles becomes King, I know you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support that you have given me.”

The Queen said her “sincere wish” is for Camilla to become Queen Consort.
The news divided many royal fans at the time, with some saying they didn’t want Camilla to take the title.
However, others were in support of the royal who had supported the then Prince of Wales for several years.
