'Tearful' King Charles 'prayed' by Princess Diana's hospital bed after she died in car crash
Diana died after sustaining injuries in a car collision in 1997Following the horrific car crash which killed Princess Diana, Prince Charles was said to have prayed inside her hospital room.
The Princess of Wales died on August 31, 1997 at the age of 36 following the collision in Paris.
In the early hours of August 31, 1997, Diana died from the injuries she sustained in the crash which happened in the Pont de l’Alma tunnel in Paris.
Her partner, Dodi Fayed, and the driver Henri Paul, died at the scene. Their bodyguard, Trevor Rees-Jones, survived the crash despite sustaining injuries.
Charles quickly flew to France after hearing the news along with Princess Diana‘s sisters, Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Lady Jane Fellowes.

What happened after the Princess Diana crash?
He arrived at Pitié-Salpêtrière University Hospital, where Diana was taken after the crash.
Father Yves-Marie Clochard-Bossuet revealed to the Daily Mail, that Charles “thanked” him and “was very, very moved”.
He added: “Yes, I saw tears.”
Meanwhile, Father Clochard-Bossuet also said Charles prayed inside the princess’ hospital room for 15 minutes alongside him, her sisters and another priest.
Diana’s former driver and minder Colin Tebbutt explained that someone from Charles’ entourage asked the royal how he was “getting back” to the UK.
He recalled: “I said, ‘I haven’t given it a thought, Sir. I haven’t got a shilling in my pocket.’ And he said, ‘Well, you won’t be going on the royal plane, of course.’ And I thought that was a little strange. They’re taking over. But the boss is mine. She’s still mine.
“Are they going to shove me on [the Eurostar] or something? But then the Prince came out and thanked me again and said, ‘You and Mr [Paul] Burrell will be coming back with me on the plane.'”

First responder held Diana’s hand after the crash
Meanwhile, a fire sergeant recently revealed Princess Diana’s last words following the crash.

“I could understand that, so I tried to calm her. I held her hand. Then others took over.”

However, a report later released in 2012 revealed emergency responders took photos of the royal before she was placed in the ambulance.
French authorities later destroyed the pictures.
Diana sustained a concussion, a broken arm and cuts to her thighs. She suffered a cardiac arrest, and they couldn’t revive her.
She was tragically pronounced dead at 4.00am on August 31, 1997.

Charles has ‘regrets’ over his ‘bad behaviour’
Friends of the future king opened up over the emotional toll his divorce to Diana had on him.
They claimed that Charles feels a sense of regret over how it ended with Princess Diana.
The insider added: “When you look back on it now, asking someone to sacrifice… happiness for the sake of their public persona seems really quite cruel.”
They were referring to how Charles was not ‘permitted’ to marry his former girlfriend Camilla as she was not ‘suitable’ to be a royal. Instead, a match was made between Charles and Diana and they later married in 1981. After 15 years together, they divorced in 1996 following a period of separation.
Diana then died the following year in the car crash in Paris.
