King Charles made a six-word joke to tennis star Emma Raducanu when he was giving her an MBE.

Emma is currently competing in the women’s singles in SW19, aiming for her second-ever Grand Slam title. But back in 2022, she was awarded an MBE by King Charles and it seems their interaction left Emma in a fit of laughter.

Emma Raducanu was only 20 years old when she received her MBE, and shared a special bonding moment with King Charles. While he always tries to speak to the attendees, it seems he went out of his way to make Emma feel comfortable.

King Charles’ joke to tennis star Emma Raducanu

The royal family always seem to be fans of tennis, so it seems understandable why he would want to chat away to Emma.

One year after the interaction, Emma opened up on how funny King Charles actually was, and how he had a good joke lined up for their meeting.

She told Sunday Times Style Magazine that King Charles had “good banter” which was evident in his joke.

King Charles asked Emma: “Have you found a coach yet?” joking about her tennis skills. And at the time, Emma didn’t actually have a coach, something which was talked about quite a lot. But she never expected royalty to be in on it too.

Emma said: “I was like, ‘That’s good banter!’ It was so funny. I was laughing because everyone was ripping me off for not having a coach. I was like ‘The fact you know this, I feel honoured’.”

The up-to-date tennis knowledge from King Charles proves that he does enjoy the sport, and actually wanted to know more. And it gives Emma some royal backing of support.

King Charles’ funny comments to guests

This isn’t the only time King Charles has showed his personality to guests – another moment was actually very recent.

At last weeks Kings Trust Awards, King Charles made a surprising music request to DJ Melvin Odoom – and also showed he wasn’t up to date with streaming platforms.

Melvin was performing a DJ set for the red carpet. Wanting to make sure Charles was happy, he asked the monarch: “Any tunes you want, let me know.”

He explained that Charles did in fact have a request – which took him by surprise. Melvin said: “He asked for the Sugababes CD to be played.

“I didn’t want to say to him that we don’t use CDs anymore. I would be using my USB. But I will drop the Sugababes.”

The girl-group heard about the request, and actually already knew the king was wanting to hear more of their music.

Member Keisha Buchanan said: “That’s very, very cool to know he requested us. He said he wanted a CD, we think we will introduce him to Overload first. He was really lovely.”

So while Charles may be the king, it seems he isn’t afraid to let his fun nature shown – proved by his interaction with Emma Radacanu, and the Sugababes.
