Meghan Markle’s fruit platter for Independence Day
The mum-of-two wished her fans a happy 4th of July when she uploaded clips on both her own and brand’s As Ever Instagram accounts over the weekend.
Meghan Markle decided to create an unusual fruit platter, using strawberries, cherries, watermelon, blueberries, blackberries and cheese to mark the colours of the American flag – red, white and blue. The cheese seemed to be cut in star shapes, and she included freshly cut bread, breadsticks and a serving of her jam spread. The royal also added fresh flowers onto the fruit, which is no surprise with her fondness of flower sprinkles.
She captioned the post: “Red, white and blue… and easy to do! Happy 4th friends. Be safe, have fun.”

In writing on top of the video, she wrote: “Easy entertaining.”
At the beginning of the clip she is dancing, while wearing a blue and white striped shirt, paired with gold jewellery. She holds her hands on her hip as she hops from one side to the other.
However, at one point, she can’t resist tasting her own spread, dipping a raspberry in it and taking a bite.

Link to Netflix series
Fans of the Duchess of Sussex will remember she re-created the fruit platter from her Netflix cooking show – but some viewers were left confused by Meghan Markle’s decision.
The series, which launched in March this year, showed the royal making up a platter for a children’s birthday party.
Some parents branded the rainbow platter made up of various fruit as ‘unrealistic’.
As she crafted the huge dish, on a wood chopping board, she spoke about being a “present parent”. Meghan suggested parents make the meal for their children to eat for breakfast, as it means their days start with “a lot more fun”.
In Meghan’s signature style, she also topped the fruit with flower sprinkles and dried petals.

“It’s a real delight in being able to be a present parent, and it’s a luxury sometimes, because we all have to work,” she said on camera. “We all have a lot of stuff to do, but when you can take a minute to just…”
The royal paused, before a crew member said: “Saturday morning,” and she agreed.
Meghan added: “Finding the fun in those moments makes for a really sweet start to the weekend.”
However, the huge platter appeared to consist of a three punnets of strawberries, punnet of blueberries, two punnets of raspberries, a pineapple, three kiwis, four satsumas, a banana, three nectarines and dried rose petals. But all of this costs an average of £34. She later clarified in an Instagram clip parents can do a single version to “incorporate these practices every day.”

Parents slammed ‘unrealistic’ expectations
However, Meghan Markle received backlash after parents watched the series at the time.
One wrote on X (Twitter): “Many parents can’t afford five or six kinds of fruit. Maybe a bag of apples or oranges. But all that??”
A second added: “Fruit and yoghurt arranged on a plate with a sprinkle of edible flowers, just screams ‘kid food’ to me, along with overhead lightening at kids parties lol. Very unrealistic for most working parents but hey… it’s Meghan’s world of staff, maids, nannies and millions in the bank.”
While a third penned: “Seriously, what busy mum has got time to fiddle about with a plate of fruit?”

Whereas morning show presenters also took aim. Good Morning Britain’s Susanna Reid quipped: “In the old days it used to be called a fruit salad.”
Lorraine Kelly agreed on her own show: “Doesn’t that all look so clean and gorgeous and lovely and unrealistic though, for the rest of us!”
However, others came to her defence saying she was “just in her kitchen making little fruit rainbow plates for her kids.”
And another admitted that the duchess had “inspired” them to find the joy in cooking.
