Dates for Donald Trump's UK state visit with King Charles announced
Trump's "unprecedented" visit is already proving divisive
King Charles and the royal family are facing a backlash from supporters as the dates for Donald Trump‘s UK state visit have been confirmed.
It was revealed back in February that the US President had been invited to the UK for an “unprecedented” second state visit. Mr Trump made his first state visit to the UK in 2019, during his initial term of office.
Mr Trump – who claimed to have had a “great relationship” with the late Queen Elizabeth II, despite reports she found him “very rude” – said King Charles was a “beautiful man, a wonderful man” when he was presented with the invite by Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

When is Donald Trump making a state visit to the UK?
However, going by comments made by users on X and Instagram today (Monday, July 14), as new details of the upcoming state visit to the UK have emerged, it seems not everyone is as enthusiastic as Mr Trump as he is about making the trip across the Atlantic.
A post shared on Insta confirmed in the caption: “The President of the United States of America, President Donald J. Trump, accompanied by the First Lady Mrs. Melania Trump, will be hosted by His Majesty The King for a State Visit to the United Kingdom from 17th September to 19th September 2025.”
But while responses online might not have contained so many capital letters as that social media announcement, many of the tens of thousands expressing themselves strongly urged the monarch to reconsider the offer.

‘So sorry for the royal family’
“Bad idea, Charles. Still time to cancel,” one such respondent warned the king.
However, someone else replied to the post by noting: “Not his choice. It is at Parliament’s request. So is every state visit.”
Bad idea, Charles. Still time to cancel.
The September scheduling indicates the president is unlikely to address MPs at Westminster as neither the Houses of Commons nor Lords will be sitting at the time. But that hasn’t prevented those reacting to the news from also having sympathy for the royals. Mr Trump and his wife are expected to stay at Windsor Castle during the trip.

‘Is the state paying for this?’
Others had much tougher words to send in the direction of King Charles over the state visit.
“I love my royal family, but do not love or support this decision!” seethed one Instagram commenter.
Another gasped: “Is the state paying for this? Can we ask for a refund?”
And another commenter went as far to remark: “Shame on you King Charles. You are condoning all the despicable things he has done and continues to do.”
There were some who were keener on hosting the former front man of The US Apprentice, however. “Amazing! Welcome President Trump and the beautiful First Lady!” gushed a fan.
