'Real reason' Donald Trump will want to be seen with Kate Middleton during UK state visit

She could be the "icing on the cake" for the US President

US President Donald Trump will find it highly desirable to spend time with Kate Middleton during his upcoming state visit to the UK, a royal pundit claims.

Jennie Bond, who was formerly the BBC’s royal correspondent, suggests the success enjoyed by three particular royals during last week’s hosting of French President Emmanuel Macron will mean they also land plum roles when Mr Trump makes the trip across the pond in September.

However, she also believes the Princess of Wales will have an instrumental role in handling the polarising tycoon, which he may consider the “icing on the cake” for his special treatment.

Why Donald Trump ‘will want to be seen with’ Kate Middleton during UK state visit

According to the Mirror, Ms Bond believes Kate – as well as Princess Anne and Birgitte, Duchess of Gloucester, who both also shone during the events held for the Mr Macron – could have lynchpin positions when Mr Trump comes to town.

Focusing on Kate, Ms Bond shared how she thinks Prince William’s wife will aid diplomatic efforts.

“Catherine will be the icing on the cake for a man as vain as Donald Trump,” Ms Bond reportedly said.

I’m sure she will be there to massage his ego in the most diplomatic, subtle and regal way.

She continued: “To be seen with her will be gold dust in his eyes. And I’m sure she will be there to massage his ego in the most diplomatic, subtle and regal way.”

‘Well versed in the niceties of a state visit’

Ms Bond also talked up the prospects of Princess Anne, said to be a key supporter for her brother King Charles, and the Duchess of Gloucester for being involved.

“I’m sure that Birgitte will be on hand again when President Trump comes to the UK. After so many years in the royal family, she is well versed in the niceties of a state visit,” she reflected. “And the Princess Royal will also have a key role, as always. She really is the king’s right hand woman; his confidante, his wing-woman. They are both stalwarts on the royal treadmill. They work hard, ask for no recognition, almost shun publicity… and just get on with the job.”

When is Donald Trump making a state visit to the UK?

It was confirmed on Instagram yesterday (Monday, July 14) that Donald Trump’s “unprecedented” second state visit will happen in September.

A post’s caption read: “The President of the United States of America, President Donald J. Trump, accompanied by the First Lady Mrs. Melania Trump, will be hosted by His Majesty The King for a State Visit to the United Kingdom from 17th September to 19th September 2025.”
