Future appearances of Kate Middleton at Wimbledon are expected to continue a new trend that drew a spontaneous reaction from the Princess of Wales, fans reckon.

Prince William’s wife showed up in SW19 on both days over the last weekend to take in the action from Centre Court. She dazzled in a white belted jacket and pleated skirt on the Saturday (July 12) as she attended the Ladies’ Single Final. And on the Sunday (July 13), Princess Kate returned to the Royal Box with her husband and two eldest children, Prince George and Princess Charlott,e to take in the Men’s Singles Final.

However, when the moment came for Princess Kate’s starring role in proceedings, she came in for unexpected interjections from fervent admirers.

What happened to Kate Middleton at Wimbledon 2025?

Princess Kate has been a fixture at Wimbledon since 2016. That was when she was made patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club. She hands out the trophies after the final tournament games have been settled.

But on both days of last weekend, she appeared to be momentarily caught off guard as to how members of the watching crowd reacted to her.

Those reactions came as the mum-of-three was taking her position after both finals. It involved devoted fans hollering their approval for her, telling the princess: “I love you, Kate!”

Both times, Princess Kate smiled at the reception she received. And others watching from the sidelines seemed to indicate their amusement and assent by chuckling along at the outbursts.

But fans on social media believe a new Wimbledon tradition set to rival strawberries with cream and Cliff Richard hosting a singalong in the drizzle may have been formed.

How fan accounts on social media reacted

One X user cooed with admiration as they reposted a fan video showing the two shout-out moments back to back.

“Princess Catherine receives another ‘I love you Kate’ from the crowd at Wimbledon Men’s Final today,” they explained. “The same happened yesterday at the Women’s Final. I want to thank whoever started this trend of ‘I love you Kate’ at Wimbledon.”

I think this is going to turn into a yearly tradition.

Another fan responded: “I think this is going to turn into a yearly tradition.”
