Kelly Clarkson’s awkward interaction towards Meghan Markle after supporting Prince Harry
Kelly had to be reminded who the Duchess of Sussex was...Kelly Clarkson came out to support Prince Harry in the past, but when it came to his wife Meghan Markle, she had no idea who she was while on a TV show.
The awkward moment was caught on camera and unfortunately means it’s cemented into the world of cyberspace for us all to cringe over.
The American Idol winner has established a successful career for herself after topping the competition. She now has her own hit chat show called The Kelly Clarkson Show, but despite meeting famous faces day in and day out, she still has no idea who Prince Harry’s wife Meghan Markle is, or what she does.
Kelly Clarkson supported Prince Harry
The singer actually came out to support the Duke of Sussex in 2017 for the Invictus Games which were held in Toronto.
This was the same year of Meghan Markle’s debut as Prince Harry’s girlfriend at the event that Kelly Clarkson sang at.
Kelly headlined the closing ceremony with Bryan Adams. The Duke created the event for wounded, sick and injured serving and former members of the armed forces.

But Kelly Clarkson had no idea who Meghan Markle was
Despite stepping up for Prince Harry, Kelly Clarkson has been put on the spot when it comes to Meghan Markle more than once. Two years later, when she was on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, she admitted she couldn’t remember her name.
The Since U Been Gone hitmaker was playing a game of Hot Hands, where you have to identify famous famous. Kelly had to also reveal what she would ask them on her own show which she was promoting at the time.
Despite Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s worldwide fairytale wedding taking place a mere few months before, Kelly Clarkson still had no idea who she was. Although, she correctly named Justin Timberlake, Miley Cyrus, Drake, and Jennifer Lopez.
When the Duchess of Sussex came up, she was lost for words.
Kelly said: “Uh, I know this one. She’s a princess.”
Ellen had to step in to help, and Kelly Clarkson shouted: “Meghan Markle!”
She went on to say: “She was on Suits, actually, I love Suits. I don’t know why she doesn’t look like a Meghan to me, maybe I’ll as about that.”

Fine, you can give the star a break for brain fog, but five years later and Kelly Clarkson still seems unbothered by Meghan Markle.
In April 2025, on an episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, the 42-year-old had no clue the royal had launched a cooking seres with Netflix.
Guest Brian Tyree Henry was discussing his fascination with the show, With Love, Meghan, and how it brought him and his co-star Elizabeth Olsen closer.

“Lizzie and I share the bond of watching television that’s crazy. And by crazy, we mean stuff that we just really like,” Henry said.
“So, we’re in love with With Love, Meghan right now.”
“What is that?” Kelly Clarkson asked, looking super dumbfounded, to which Henry revealed, “The new Meghan Markle slash Meghan, Duchess of Sussex show where she’s also like Martha Stewart now.”
What seems more awkward is that Meghan appears to watch Kelly’s show. The 43-year-old posted on her Instagram stories later that she was sending Henry and Elizabeth a free gift in the post.
We don’t think Meghan will send Kelly any flower sprinkles though…
