Sad reality of young Prince George's dream job he'll never get to do
George has been obsessed with it since a young agePrince George’s dreams of his perfect job when he’s a young man may never come true – due to the sad reality of responsibility which comes with the crown.
The young prince, who is set to turn 12 on July 22, 2025, is second in line to the British throne. He follows behind his father Prince William, who will succeed the current monarch, King Charles, one day.
While many members of the royal family take up jobs before settling down in their senior roles within The Firm, some careers are unlikely to flourish into a lifetime achievement for those in the line of succession.
Prince Harry, William and Charles when he was the Prince of Wales, took up roles within the military and navy, following a tradition that has been around for generations. However, Prince George’s dream job may mean he won’t get the chance to pursue it for a real career one day due to his future being laid out before him.

Young prince sees his future away from the crown
During a visit with a British restaurant owner in 2024, Prince George spoke of another dream, an alternative to the job that has been carved out for him since birth.
Wiveton Hall owner, Desmon MacCarthy, told the Daily Mail that George and his mother Kate Middleton visited the manor home’s cafe.
It was during this trip that the then 11-year-old revealed what he wanted to do in the future.
Prince George said he was “so exited to visit the restaurant” and “declared he saw his future working in the kitchen”.
He added: “What’s what I want to do when I grow up” when he was shown the wood-fired pizza oven.
Perhaps he’ll be hands on in Buckingham Palace’s kitchen?

Prince William revealed young George’s ‘dream job’ as a child
Prince George’s “dream job” from when he was six years old was also revealed by his father. The young prince was reportedly “obsessed” with being a police officer when he grows up.
Back in 2017, a letter the future king had written to Santa Claus revealed Prince George asked for one present – a toy police car. His passion for becoming a police officer was mentioned once again back in 2018 during the Metropolitan Police Excellence Awards at Kensington Palace.
Prince William reportedly told those present that George was “obsessed” with all things police.
As Vanity Fair reported at the time, Scotland Yard officer Jayne Richardson said that George “does like the police at the moment”.
It is understood that William told Richardson that George is “obsessed, actually, by the police… cars, toys, everything”.
However, for obvious reasons, it’s unlikely that George, nine, will likely never see his dream of working for the police become a reality.
And, according to reports, George has known about his future job as king since he was seven years old.
“Sometime around the boy’s seventh birthday in the summer of 2020 it is thought that his parents went into more detail about what the little prince’s life of future royal ‘service and duty’ would particularly involve,” royal author Robert Lacey wrote in his book, Battle of Brothers.

Royals’ jobs before The Firm
While, undoubtedly, the future is set out for Prince George, he could spend some time working in his dream job before the throne comes calling.
His father William, who studied Art History and Geography from the University of St Andrews, worked as a helicopter search and rescue pilot before focusing on royal duties full time.
William earned his wings as a pilot after studying at RAF Cranwell after undergoing military training in 2006. He was commissioned as a British Army officer and served in the Household Cavalry before transitioning to the RAF and working as an ambulance pilot.

Whereas, George’s grandfather, King Charles, also had RAF training while he studied at Cambridge University. He served in the navy, just like both of his sons who followed in his footsteps with military training.
The only two royals who saw active duty were Prince Andrew and Prince Harry.
Therefore, it seems George is set to undergo military training if he wants to sit on the throne, like the kings before him.
