Noel Gallagher has reportedly taken a swipe at the royal family during one of his much-awaited Oasis reunion gigs.

Noel, 58, and brother Liam, 52, have just wrapped up their historic five-night stint at Manchester’s Heaton Park, sharing the stage for the first time since their infamous split in 2009, to five sold-out crowds of 80,000 fans.

It was on the final night (Sunday, July 20) that Noel made the comment.

What did Noel Gallagher say about the royal family?

According to the Mirror, as the Gallagher brothers prepared to perform their hit Half the World Away, Noel made his feelings towards the royal family known.

While earlier in the week he had touchingly dedicated the song, famously used as the theme tune for the British sitcom The Royle Family, to the memory of the late actress Caroline Aherne, this time he switched up the tone.

Strumming the opening, he reportedly told fans: “Right, you’re gonna help me sing this one. It’s for the royal family.”

Then, over the cheers, he added: “Not that [bleep]ing royal family. The real Royle Family.”

His savage humour apparently got a good laugh from the excited crowd and has since gone viral on social media.

It’s not the first time Noel has aired his views on the monarchy. He previously expressed sympathy for the royal family living under such a spotlight, commenting: “What a terrible life they must lead.”

In particular, and perhaps unsurprisingly, he seemed to feel an allegiance with Prince William, saying: “I feel that lad’s pain.”

I don’t hate the Queen or none of them.

However, he has also reassured fans in an interview: “I’m not like anti-royal or anything. I don’t hate the Queen or none of them, they were all born into it. They’re the custodians whatever in its essence England is, the Crown Jewels and all that. I wouldn’t have them all shot – like I said a couple of times in the ’90s – but I’m not a royalist by any stretch of the imagination, but I don’t hate them either.”

Liam Gallagher Coldplay comment

Noel’s little brother Liam also had his own viral moment during the recent gigs as he addressed the recent Coldplay kiss cam scandal.

In case you haven’t been on social media in recent days, Astronomer CEO Andy Byron’s alleged affair with his colleague Kristin Cabot was exposed after they were seen on a kiss cam at a recent concert.

When the pair noticed they were on the big screen, they quickly jumped away from each other, and he even ducked out of view.

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin said into the mic: “Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy.”

Byron has since resigned from his position at Astronomer while an investigation is underway. Both Byron and Cabot appeared to be married to other people.

During the intro to Slide Away, Liam got straight to the point: “Right then, do we have any lovebirds in the house? Don’t worry, we ain’t got any of that Coldplay, snidey [bleep] camera [bleep]. Doesn’t matter to us who you’re mingling with… none of our business. But this one’s for the lovebirds anyway.”
