In pictures: Every official birthday photo of Prince George as he turns 12
George is the eldest child of the Prince and Princess of WalesPrince George celebrates his 12th birthday on July 22, so let’s take a look at every photo that has marked his special day over the years.
The young prince, who is second in line to the throne, was born on July 22, 2013, at St Mary’s Hospital in London.
Ever since his first birthday in 2014, the palace has released an image of Prince George on his birthday each year.

Prince George’s first official birthday photo
A child’s first birthday is always a big deal for every parent out there. Prince George’s was no different as Prince William and Kate, Princess of Wales, released cute photos to celebrate their eldest child turning one.
The pictures were captured at the Sensational Butterflies exhibition at London’s Natural History Museum. The snaps showed George with William and Kate, as the tot appeared focused on butterflies.
One snap showed the toddler wandering around outside in blue pin-striped dungarees.
Meanwhile, at the time, William and Kate said in a statement: “We would like to take this opportunity on George’s first birthday to thank everyone over the last year, wherever we have met them, both at home and overseas, for their warm and generous good wishes to George and our family.”

George’s second birthday picture
A year later in 2015, Prince George celebrated his second birthday as a big brother.
William and Kate had welcomed their daughter, Princess Charlotte, in May 2015.
For his second birthday, a photo of George leaning towards the camera as he flashed his pearly whites whilst being held by William melted hearts.
Photographer Mario Testino took the photo – which you can see here. In the picture, George looked adorable in a white shirt with red detailing and matching red shorts.
The snap was taken after Charlotte’s christening on July 5, 2015.
Prince George’s third birthday snap in Norfolk
In 2016, Prince George turned three. To mark the occasion, photographer Matt Porteous captured George at the family’s Norfolk home, Anmer Hall.
One picture showed George on a wooden swing, smiling at the camera. The little prince wore a blue striped top and dark blue shorts.
Meanwhile, another adorable photo showed George playing with the family’s dog, Lupo, outside.
George’s fourth birthday picture
To celebrate George’s fourth birthday in 2017, William and Kate said they felt “very pleased” to share a photograph taken by photographer Chris Jackson.
The close-up photo showed a smiling George in a striped shirt at Kensington Palace.
In addition, mirroring his dad William as a child, George showed off his thick blonde hair. You can see the photo here.
Prince George’s fifth birthday as a big brother to Charlotte and Louis
In July 2018, the palace released a photo to mark George’s fifth birthday. At this point, George was a big brother to Charlotte and little brother, Louis, born in April 2018.
The fifth birthday snap showed George grinning at the camera in a white collared shirt. Photographer Matt Porteous took the picture in the gardens of Clarence House.

George celebrates sixth birthday in 2019
A year later in 2019, Prince George turned six.
This time, mum Princess Kate took a snap of George during a family holiday. It showed George enjoying the outdoors in a dark green polo top and striped bottoms.
Meanwhile, the post read: “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to share new photographs of Prince George to mark His Royal Highness’ sixth birthday.”

Meanwhile, the couple also shared a photo of a laughing Prince George in an England football top.

George’s seventh birthday during lockdown
In 2020, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, William and Kate released a sweet photo of Prince George for his seventh birthday.
It showed the young prince showing off his smile in a green polo top.
The post read: “Sharing a [photo] taken by The Duchess ahead of Prince George’s seventh birthday tomorrow!”

Prince George looks grown up in eighth birthday photo
For his eighth birthday in 2021, a photo was shared to the Prince and Princess of Wales’ Instagram page showing George smiling in a navy and orange striped t-shirt.
The little prince seemingly sat on a car bonnet. The post read: “Turning eight(!) tomorrow. [Photo] by The Duchess.”
Fans thought he looked just like William, as one person gushed: “Very handsome young man! He is beginning to look just like his daddy!”

Prince George turned nine in 2022
In the summer of 2022, Prince George turned nine. It marked a pivotal year for the royal family as George’s great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, died in the September.
This meant that George went from third in line to the throne to second.
To mark his ninth birthday in July 2022, William and Kate shared a cute snap of George smiling in a light blue top on a sandy shoreline.
Again, Kate took the picture.
Prince George reaches double digits
In 2023, George finally hit double digits as he turned 10. To mark the occasion, a photo shared showed George looking more grown-up than ever.
Photographer Millie Pilkington captured the shot of George. He smiled at the camera whilst sitting on a set of stairs, wearing a checked shirt and green trousers.

Prince George’s 11th birthday picture
Last year, George turned 11 and Kate took a sweet photo of her eldest son.
The black and white picture showed George in a black suit jacket, smiling at the camera.
Meanwhile, the post read: “Wishing Prince George a very happy 11th birthday today! [Photo by] The Princess of Wales, 2024.”
Prince George celebrates his 12th birthday
On July 22, George is celebrating his 12th birthday. To mark the occasion, the Prince and Princess of Wales’ Instagram page shared a new photo of George.
