Prince William is expected to travel to Switzerland this weekend to show his support for the Lionesses in the Women’s Euros 2025 final.

This week, the England women’s football team beat Italy in the semi-final. After Spain beat Germany on July 23, it means the final on Sunday (July 27) will see England and Spain fight it out for the winning title.

The Prince of Wales, who is patron of the Football Association, is expected to travel to Basel ahead of Sunday’s game. According to former royal butler Paul Burrell, it’s “important” for William to show his support.

And if England win, Paul reckons a “party” should be held back in the UK.

Speaking on behalf of Genting Casino, Paul Burrell said: “As patron of the Football Association, William has been expected to attend several major matches, but he hasn’t always been able to be there.

“His family commitments sometimes override his royal duties. His family comes first.”

Paul continued: “However, I think William should support the women as they progress at the Euros. If they win, I want to see a party at Windsor for the Lionesses.

“I think it’s very important for the royal family to show support for our nation’s teams in any sport. If William can’t make it, send some of the other royals. We have to support those girls. It’s very important.”

If the Lionesses bring back the trophy, Paul thinks a “parade through London” should happen.

He said: “We should have a parade through London on an open-top bus as we normally would, followed by a reception for them at Buckingham Palace with the royal family in support.

I think William should support the women as they progress at the Euros.

“It is about national pride, and it is always good to have a celebration, particularly at this time. We have to support our sportswomen and sportsmen.”

Earlier this week, Prince William issued a message to congratulate the Lionesses, who won the women’s Euros in 2022, on their semi-final victory.

He said: “Brilliant performance @Lionesses! One game from glory!”

“Your journey to this stage has been nothing short of remarkable, showcasing the skill, determination (and test of nerve!) for which your team is so rightly celebrated.

“Knowing the Lionesses’ fighting spirit, I suspect we are in for another thrilling encounter on Sunday.”
