Donald Trump's gushing words about King Charles and Queen Camilla ahead of UK state visit
The president is coming to visit in just over a monthUS President Donald Trump has spoken highly of King Charles and Queen Camilla ahead of his upcoming UK state visit.
The 79-year-old US president made the comments during a meeting with Prime Minister Keir Starmer yesterday (Monday, July 28).

Donald Trump’s kind remarks about King Charles and Queen Camilla
Monday saw Trump and Starmer meet at the president’s Turnberry golf course in Scotland.
During their chat together, Trump gave the prime minister some tips on how to beat Leader of Reform UK Nigel Farage at the next election, advising him to crack down on immigration.
The president also took aim at London mayor Sadiq Khan, saying he’s done a “terrible job” with London, branding him a “nasty person”.
The president also spoke about the king and queen. Thankfully, his remarks were a lot more positive.
The king and queen were discussed when Trump spoke about his upcoming, “unprecedented” state visit.
No US president has had two UK state visits in the past.

Trump explains second UK state visit
“The fact that it’s never been done before – and that’s because it’s non-consecutive, it’s the only reason it could be – made it even more interesting, frankly,” Trump said.
“So it’s going to be great. And being with Charles and Camilla and everybody I’ve got to know. Because of four years and now six months, I’ve gotten to know a lot of the family members. Great people. They’re really great people,” he continued.
“And in that sense, I think the UK’s really lucky,” he then went on to say. “You could have people that weren’t great people, I don’t know if I’d say that, but you could have people that weren’t.”
“We’re very lucky,” Starmer agreed.

When will Trump visit the UK?
Earlier this month, the dates for Trump’s state visit were announced.
The president is expected to visit the UK between September 17 and September 19.
The news was announced on the royal family’s Instagram account. “The President of the United States of America, President Donald J. Trump, accompanied by the First Lady Mrs. Melania Trump, will be hosted by His Majesty The King for a State Visit to the United Kingdom from 17th September to 19th September 2025,” the caption read.
However, it has been reported that the king isn’t keen on “hanging out” with the president when he comes to visit.

Charles ‘doesn’t want to hang out’ with Trump
“There are huge numbers of substantive issues which any Prime Minister could have long conversations with Trump about. But Trump has sort of made clear when talking about the state visit that he wants to have fun. He’s looking forward to it as a bit of a two-day weekend break!” ITV journalist Robert Peston said recently.
“The problem is, my sort of sources in the palace say… the king basically takes the view – of course, he’ll give him a state dinner, and be polite and charming – but he doesn’t want to hang out with Donald Trump for two days. He basically thinks this is the Prime Minister’s initiative. And somehow Keir Starmer has to fill those two days, apart from the big ceremonial things like the state dinner,” he added.
