Kate Middleton has stepped away from her summer holiday to share a personal message about the importance of creativity and historic objects, as her new curated display opens to the public.

The Princess of Wales, who is patron of the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A), has unveiled her own “mini display” at the V&A East Storehouse in Stratford, East London.

Kate Middleton makes surprise announcement amid summer holiday

In a handwritten message accompanying the exhibition, titled “Makers and Creators”, Kate highlighted the power of objects to connect the past and the present.

“Objects can tell a story. A collection of objects can create a narrative. Both about our past and as inspiration for the future,” she wrote.

“This display celebrates our past makers and creators and illustrates how much historic objects can influence fashion, design, film, art, and creativity today.”

The princess visited the storehouse last month. She has personally selected the eclectic mix of items now on display.

These include a Beatrix Potter watercolour painting of a forest glade, a Qing dynasty porcelain vase from 17th-century China, a Welsh hand-quilted bedcover from circa 1830–40, a Royal Ballet costume designed by Oliver Messel, a 15th-century church tile from Somerset, a sculpture by Clemence Dane, a William Morris-era furnishing screen, and an oil painting titled A Woman Holding a Mirror and a Rose by George Henry Boughton.

Kate’s message also continued: “Individual, unique objects can come together to create a collective whole that helps us to explore our social and cultural experiences and the role we play in the wider tapestry of life.”

The V&A East Storehouse houses over 500,000 works from the museum’s extensive archive.

It encourages public interaction through its new “Order an Object” initiative. Visitors can request to see specific artworks or artefacts up close, from paintings and books to ceramics and furniture.

The princess’ Makers and Creators exhibition is part of over 100 rotating displays placed throughout the museum, forming an immersive and self-guided experience that is free to the public and open daily until 2026.

Late-night visits are available every Thursday and Saturday.

Kate and Meghan Markle reconcilation

Meanwhile, following reports of a behind-the-scenes “peace summit” between King Charles and Prince Harry’s aides, attention has turned to another strained royal relationship: Kate and Meghan Markle.

However, insiders say a similar truce between Kate and Meghan appears unlikely.

“Neither Kate nor Meghan seem interested in that outcome,” a royal source told Heat. “Kate feels very strongly about staying out of it all. As far as she’s concerned, she’s been through enough. Meghan’s checked out of the royal drama and doesn’t see the point in moving backwards.”

Sources claim the Princess of Wales remains cautious, especially after the fallout from the infamous bridesmaid dress incident before Harry and Meghan’s 2018 wedding. After the wedding, reports claimed that Meghan had made Kate cry over an incident involving the fitting of Kate’s daughter, Princess Charlotte’s bridesmaid dress. In her tell-all Oprah interview in 2021, Meghan claimed it was Kate who made her cry.

Kate reportedly felt that the story was “twisted” in public, leaving her unable to clear her name.

Having spent the past year focusing on her health amid her cancer recovery, Kate is said to be deeply wary of any renewed contact.
