As Meghan Markle celebrates her 44th birthday today (August 4), a look back at her past reflections reveals a glimpse of the joy and perhaps romance that was blossoming just before her life changed forever.

In a 2016 post on her now-defunct lifestyle blog The Tig, Meghan reportedly opened up about turning 35, just weeks after she met Prince Harry for the first time in London.

Although their relationship hadn’t yet been made public, her words hinted at the happiness she was quietly experiencing behind the scenes.

Meghan Markle’s birthday message weeks after meeting Prince Harry

“My mom has always said that birthdays are your own personal New Year. Your own chance to make resolutions just for yourself and what you prognosticate for your year ahead,” Meghan wrote, as reported by PEOPLE.

“And while I’ve always loved that sentiment, I have to say that when I close my eyes and think of what I wish for, I come up with a blank. A big old happy blank,” she continued. “I am feeling so incredibly joyful right now, so grateful and content that all I could wish for is more of the same. More surprises, more adventure, more opportunities to grow, more days filled with giggles and cheeky jokes.”

The word “cheeky”, more commonly used in British slang, raised eyebrows among fans years later, especially considering Meghan and Harry had just gone on their first two dates at Soho House in early July, followed by a romantic summer getaway in Botswana.

Meghan may have also hinted at a romance with the terms “more surprises, more adventure”.

I am feeling so incredibly joyful right now, so grateful and content that all I could wish for is more of the same.

While subtle, the post marked a turning point. Meghan’s life was already beginning to shift.

In another birthday post written in 2014, Meghan reflected on turning 33 and the personal growth that led her to happiness.

She reportedly wrote: “I am 33 years old today. And I am happy. And I say that so plainly because, well…it takes time. To be happy. To figure out how to be kind to yourself.”

She also spoke candidly about her struggles with identity, cliques in high school, and body image in her 20s.

This year, Meghan is expected to celebrate her birthday with Prince Harry and their children, Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four.

Meghan’s latest As Ever news

Meanwhile, Meghan is bringing back her bestselling rosé.

Following the sell-out success of her debut As Ever 2023 Napa Valley Rosé, which sold out in under an hour, the Duchess of Sussex has announced that the 2024 vintage will be available this week.

In a July 30 newsletter to subscribers, Meghan thanked fans for their support and confirmed the new release.

“Thank you for filling our cup. Now it’s time for us to fill your glass!” She gushed.

Described as a “delicate yet memorable” blend, the rosé promises to capture the sunny spirit of Napa Valley once again.

As Ever’s Instagram also teased the restock with dreamy coastal photos.

The caption read: “Oh, how we love seeing the world through rose colored glasses. Rosé colored glasses? Perhaps even better. Our new vintage of As Ever’s beloved rosé is available next week. Stay tuned for more details and timing.”
