Meghan Markle wrote about Kate Middleton in a 2014 entry on her now-defunct blog The Tig, where she admitted she dreamed of becoming a princess.

The Duchess of Sussex said in her 2021 Oprah Winfrey interview that she was “naive” when she joined the royal family.

Meghan revealed: “I went into it naively because I didn’t grow up knowing much about the royal family.

“I didn’t fully understand what the job was. It wasn’t something that was part of conversation at home. It wasn’t something that we followed.”

She also added that she didn’t “Google” Harry before she met him.

However, Meghan Markle did know some things about the royal family before becoming a member of The Firm – as her blog The Tig featured them.

Meghan Markle set up The Tig in 2014

The lifestyle blog was created by the royal between 2014 and 2017. During those three years she discussed food, travel, fashion and beauty – and she even interviewed other celebrities and wrote personal essays.

The name of her blog came from her love of Tignanello wine, which she dubbed a ‘Tig moment’, meaning coming to an understanding or realisation.

The future duchess was dubbed an influencer in the making as it gained popularity among her fans.

Her friend Silver Tree spoke about Meghan’s blog on the Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan, which released in 2022.

They said: “When she first was describing [the blog] to me, she was like, ‘It’s like your best friend telling you all the fun things you wish you knew about in one place.'”

Royal closed the blog for Harry

However, she shut it down in 2017, citing she wanted to focus on her role in legal drama Suits and philanthropic work. It was the same year that her relationship with Prince Harry became public.

Although later, she appeared to allude to the fact she closed it down as she was marrying the Duke of Sussex.

Meghan Markle explained: “Well, I loved The Tig, but I certainly love my husband more. So that was a choice I made at the time, and I wouldn’t change that for a second.”

She added: “My husband met me when I had The Tig, and I see this spark in his eye when he sees me doing the thing that I was doing when he first met me.”

The royal made reference to the blog again in 2025, during the launch of her lifestyle brand As Ever.

In a video announcing her brand, she said: “As Ever essentially means as it’s always been, and if you’ve followed me since 2014 with The Tig, you know I’ve always loved cooking and crafting and gardening – this is what I do. And I haven’t been able to share it with you in the same way for the past few years, but now I can.”

What did Meghan Markle say about Kate Middleton on The Tig?

An unearthed post from The Tig not only shows Meghan Markle taking an interest in the Kate Middleton’s wedding, she also admitted she dreamt of becoming a princess herself.

Meghan wrote: “Little girls dream of being princesses. I, for one, was all about She-Ra, Princess of Power.

“For those of you unfamiliar with the ’80s cartoon reference, She-Ra is the twin sister of He-Man and a sword-wielding royal rebel known for her strength. We’re definitely not talking about Cinderella here.”

She then added: “Grown women seem to retain this childhood fantasy. Just look at the pomp and circumstance surrounding the royal wedding and endless conversation about Princess Kate.”

Meghan in ‘tears’ watching Diana’s funeral

To add, several of Meghan’s childhood friends have since claimed that she took a close interest in the royal family – particularly husband Harry’s mother Princess Diana.

Ninaki Priddy said Meghan was “always fascinated” by the royal family and wanted to be “Princess Diana 2.0”.

Royal biographer Andrew Morton also claimed that Meghan watched Diana’s funeral with “tears coursing down her cheeks”.

He wrote: “Aged 16, she watched the funeral of Diana with her friends, tears coursing down their cheeks at the poignant moment when the cameras zoomed in on the royal coffin.”
