Princess Eugenie’s unexpected friendship with British pop icon Robbie Williams and his wife, American actress Ayda Field, has left royal fans both surprised and curious.
The trio recently reunited for a sun-soaked getaway in Portugal, where Princess Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, have a lavish holiday home.
While longtime royal watchers may know the families have a history, many casual fans were stunned to see Eugenie popping up in Ayda’s holiday photo dump.

Ayda shared a series of Instagram snaps from the trip, including shots with Eugenie and Robbie.
Fans quickly flooded the comments, stunned by the unexpected crossover.
“How did they become friends with the royals?” One questioned.
Another echoed: “Is that Princess Eugenie?”
“How come they are friends of Princess Eugenie?” A third fan asked.
“Could @princesseugenie please tell her uncle that Rob finally deserves an OBE?” one user joked.
In one image, Eugenie stood next to Ayda in front of an ornate wrought iron gate, looking relaxed in a khaki sleeveless maxi dress and cream sandals.
Ayda, meanwhile, wore a breezy white linen set with platform wedges. Other photos included Robbie, Ayda, and Eugenie beaming beside one another, and sweet candids of the couple’s children enjoying the beach.
Ayda captioned the collection: “Obrigada #summer #familytime”, the Portuguese word for “thank you”.
Princess Eugenie and Robbie Williams’ friendship
It’s true that, at first glance, Eugenie’s friendship with the pop star and his Hollywood wife may seem unexpected. However, their bond actually goes back over a decade.
According to reports, Eugenie and Jack were introduced to Robbie and Ayda by none other than Eugenie’s mother, Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York.
The duchess reportedly hit it off with Ayda during a shopping trip in St. Barts in 2011. The connection quickly turned into a long-term friendship between the families.
Soon after, the royals were invited to the Williams’ home in LA. By that May, they were close enough to watch the Eurovision Song Contest together at Robbie’s Wiltshire estate.
Since then, the families have stayed connected through major life milestones, including Eugenie’s 2018 royal wedding, where Robbie and Ayda’s daughter Theodora “Teddy” served as one of the bridesmaids.
She shared the spotlight with Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and other young royals like Mia Tindall and Savannah Phillips.
Behind the scenes, it’s been said that Eugenie views Robbie as “the brother she never had”. Ayda and the princess have also grown incredibly close over the years.
How come they are friends of Princess Eugenie?
Now, the friends are reconnecting in Portugal. Eugenie and Jack own a reported multimillion-pound villa at the exclusive CostaTerra Golf and Ocean Club in Comporta.
The private resort is located on the scenic Alentejo coast. It is known for its luxurious villas, serene beaches, and A-list clientele, with home prices starting around £3.6 million ($4.7m).
