Prince William being left-handed is more common in the royal family than you think
Prince William is not the only member of the royal family that is left-handed...There are more people in the world who use their right hand compared to those who are left-handed – and a surprising number of faces in the royal family fit into the latter category, including Prince William.
It’s an easy fact to forget, but every time fans spot Prince William picking something up or writing left-handed, they’re stumped.
However, he’s not the only person in The Firm who is part of this club.

Is Prince William left-handed?
Yes, Prince William is left-handed, and the royal first revealed this trait when he signed a book on his first day at Eton. He was photographed next to dad King Charles and his mother, Princess Diana. Prince Harry also joined him on his first special day.
Since then, Prince William has been seen signing documents and autographing his signature left-handed.
In 2022, he signed a proclamation as part of King Charles III’s Accession Council ceremony with his left hand.
Royal fans took to social media to reveal they had no idea he was left-handed as Prince William took part in the event at St James’s Palace.
He’s even cracked a joke about being part of the club, jesting “left-handers have better brains”.

Who is left-handed in the royal family?
It runs in the family, in both blood and marriage.
Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, Prince Edward’s wife, is left-handed as well, being another member of the royal family to join Prince William.
She’s been seen using her left hand when signing her moniker.
William’s great-grandfather King George VI was left-handed, but used his right hand to write. He’d also play tennis with his dominant hand too.

Queen Victoria was thought to be as well, while writing with her right, she’d paint with her left hand. It would have been common practice at the time to encourage left-handers to use the right at the time.
Some believe Prince George may be left-handed, but it’s not been confirmed on whether he follows his father’s footsteps. He has been seen using both left and right hands for tasks, for example, stirring Christmas pudding mixture in 2019 next to his grandfather, father and the late Queen.
Studies show 10-12% of people are left-handed, whereas the remaining 90% use their right side. Data shows children will develop a preference at around 18-months-old and have a dominate side by the time they reach three.
