King Charles strict 'rule' when it comes to royal chefs cooking his eggs

He's quite fond of them...

What do you cook a monarch for tea? Well, when it comes to King Charles, he is reportedly known to enjoy his eggs in the afternoon. However, sources say he imposes a strict rule on his staff when it comes to afternoon tea.

Just like his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II, he may be classed as a fussy eater.

King Charles and wife Queen Camilla reportedly eat the same foods regularly, after finding out what their favourites are, and for the monarch, eggs are something that ‘must be done right’ every single time.

King Charles’ ‘rule’ he has for staff cooking his eggs

The 76-year-old likes his meal with a royal twist, and the rule he has in place affects his staff preparing his meals.

Tom Quinn, author of Yes Ma’am, penned in his book that King Charles prefers his eggs to be cooked in a very specific way for afternoon tea.

Despite having a refined palate and talented chefs at his disposable, the simple dish has to be done just right.

Quinn claimed: “He [the King] had never once cooked his own eggs and muffins. Because, like many people, Charles is fussy about how his own eggs are cooked, and because eggs are notoriously difficult to get just right, he insists that six eggs should be cooked so that at least two will be just as he likes them.”

However, the palace has previously denied another strange story about King Charles and eggs. Jeremy Paxman claimed the monarch ate seven boiled eggs for breakfast. But the royal family claimed it was nonsense, clarifying the royal actually prefers coddled eggs, which are like a soft-boiled egg. But they did not comment on Quinn’s new claims from his recent book.

The monarch never skips breakfast

They say it’s the most important meal of the day, so it wouldn’t be any different for a ruler.

Grant Harrold, who worked as a butler for King Charles between the years 2004 and 2011, revealed how the former Prince of Wales spends his mornings.

He explained: “The day would always begin with breakfast. The only difference with the royals is that it would always be taken in the dining room. You would certainly never catch the king having breakfast in bed.”

Grant added: “The day would then begin, royal engagements starting at 10 o’clock.

“The king would hardly ever stop for lunch and engagements would continue throughout the day.”

Although King Charles was notoriously known for skipping lunch, he would have afternoon tea to make up for it, which is where he likely has his specially-cooked eggs.

And it appears he likes eggs in a matter of ways, as Clarence House once shared one of King Charles’ favourite meals on Instagram. It was a brunch recipe for cheesy baked eggs!
