A new book has reignited public fury surrounding Prince Andrew, and now a poll shows overwhelming support for stripping him of his remaining royal titles.

It comes just days after explosive claims emerged from Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York, a tell-all book by royal biographer Andrew Lownie.

The book, set to be released on August 14, delves into the Duke and Duchess of York’s lives. It contains allegations about their marriage, finances, and Andrew’s ties to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

What title does Prince Andrew have?

Prince Andrew currently holds the Duke of York title as well as the Earl of Inverness and Baron Killyleagh.

The duke, who was born with the title of prince, stopped using the style His Royal Highness in an official capacity in 2022 as he faced a US civil lawsuit over sexual assault allegations.

He has always denied the accusations, and the case was settled out of court in February 2022 between the duke and his accuser, Virginia Giuffre.

What allegations are made in Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York?

Some extracts from the upcoming book have been serialised in the MailOnline.

Lownie’s book alleges that the Duke of York once got into a physical altercation with his nephew, Prince Harry. However, a spokesperson for Harry denied this.

The book also goes on to make claims about Andrew’s sex life, his and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson’s alleged finances, and claims about their marriage.

With Prince Andrew’s reputation once again under the microscope, public sentiment seems clear.

According to a new YouGov survey, 67% of Britons want the royal stripped of his remaining titles, with nearly half (46%) saying they “strongly support” the move.

Only 13% opposed, mostly among Conservative voters and older age groups.

Meanwhile, author Lownie recently told Sky News that there’s “no appetite” to see Andrew return to public life.

“I don’t think he has any public future,” he said. “I would say his private future is pretty limited, too. He lives in Royal Lodge, he plays golf, watches TV, and presumably sees his grandchildren. He’s living the life of a retired man.”

Duke of York ‘annoyed’ over his ‘lack of royal status’

The new revelations only add fuel to an already intense fire. A separate YouGov survey found Prince Andrew languishing at the bottom of the royal favourability rankings, with only 5% of the British public holding a positive view of him.

Andrew lost his military titles and patronages in 2022. However, his remaining privileges now seem under threat.

Sources even suggest Prince William has privately supported moving Andrew and Sarah out of their Windsor residence, Royal Lodge.

Meanwhile, what stings most for the duke, according to Lownie, is not the headlines but the loss of his titles.

“What most annoys him is his lack of royal status,” he added to Sky. “That’s what really gave him his whole sense of identity.”
