Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s newly renewed Netflix deal is making waves, and according to royal expert Jennie Bond, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex may now be heading down two very different professional paths.

Appearing on GB News on August 11, Jennie weighed in on the surprise continuation of the couple’s streaming partnership with Netflix, following weeks of speculation that the deal was in jeopardy.

Harry and Meghan’s Netflix partnership set to continue

The streaming giant announced earlier this week that it would extend its partnership with the couple’s Archewell Productions company in a new multi-year, first-look deal.

This is a more selective arrangement than their original reported $100 million agreement signed in 2020. This time, Netflix gets priority access to their future projects, but is not obligated to greenlight or fund every proposal.

The deal also includes a new collaboration with Meghan’s lifestyle brand As Ever, alongside a slate of upcoming content, including the second season of With Love, Meghan, a Christmas holiday special, a documentary titled Masaka Kids: A Rhythm Within, and the long-awaited feature adaptation of Meet Me at the Lake.

He’s far better off not on the celebrity treadmill or the production treadmill.

Royal commentator Jennie Bond admitted the press may have jumped the gun in predicting the end of the Sussexes’ Netflix era.

She told GB News: “There was no statement from Harry and Meghan and no indication at any point, but we all decided that the Netflix deal was dead in the water. So it’s one in the eye to all her detractors.”

Jennie acknowledged Meghan’s comeback. However, she noted the fanfare around the deal masks the modest scale of the current confirmed projects.

She continued: “They spoke about all these projects, but if you analyse it, it’s one show, that’s her lifestyle show. There’s a holiday special at Christmas, and then there’s the Ugandan documentary. The rest of it is all very, very vague.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could be set for ‘different paths’

Jennie also reflected on the shift in the dynamic between the couple. She noted that Meghan is now the clear face of their brand, while Harry is retreating from the entertainment world.

“I think he has realised that perhaps television isn’t his forte. Producing television programmes is really not as easy as he might have thought,” she speculated.

“He’s far better off not on the celebrity treadmill or the production treadmill. He’s much better using his name for his campaigns. I think he is going to be going in that direction, with a foot in the Netflix camp from time to time.

“But I think he’ll be treading a different path. Meghan is the celebrity. She’s the LA girl, and he has a bit part here. But hopefully that’s the way they want it. And he will create a different path for himself.”

Despite polarised opinions, Jennie also noted that Meghan deserves credit.

She said: “She may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but that lifestyle show she does is perfectly pleasant. It’s not groundbreaking. It is what she says it is: just full of joy and a bit of cookery. Good luck to her. She smashed it.”
