As Princess Anne celebrated her 75th birthday this week, many royal fans may be wondering what her future looks like.

Especially when it comes to her role within the monarchy, when Prince William, 43, becomes king one day.

Former royal butler Grant Harrold has opened up about his memories of Princess Anne and shared his thoughts on what the future might hold for the Princess Royal.

Princess Anne ‘future’ with Prince William as king

Discussing what Anne‘s future could hold amid swirling rumours of William’s plans to modernise the monarchy, Grant mused: “She’s a very important member of the royal family. Since the late queen passed, I think Anne’s importance has only grown.

“She was with the queen at the end of her life, alongside the king. And I think people now see her not just as the queen’s daughter, but as a true pillar of the family.

She’s absolutely vital to the monarchy, and even when William becomes king I have no doubt she’ll remain a working royal.

“She’s matter-of-fact like her father, Prince Philip, and has the queen’s humour. That’s what people love about her.”

With this in mind, Grant predicts that Anne will continue her tireless work, even if the royal fold changes.

He said: “She’s one of the hardest-working royals. Everyone loves Princess Anne. She’s deeply admired, and many people are reminded of the late queen when they see her.

“She’s absolutely vital to the monarchy, and even when William becomes king I have no doubt she’ll remain a working royal.”

Princess Anne’s ‘warning’ to younger royals

Anne has previously shared her own thoughts about the future of the monarchy. It came amid reports that King Charles wanted to slim down the monarchy.

In 2020, she warned the younger generation of royals in a rare interview.

She told Vanity Fair: “I don’t think this younger generation probably understands what I was doing in the past, and it’s often true, isn’t it?

“You don’t necessarily look at the previous generations and say, ‘Oh, you did that? Or, you went there?’ And I’m already at the stage, ‘Please do not reinvent that particular wheel.’ We’ve been there, done that; some of these things don’t work. You may need to go back to basics.”

King Charles’ ‘birthday gift’ to Anne

Elsewhere, Grant, speaking on behalf of Heart Bingo, discussed how King Charles may reward Anne on her milestone day.

He said: “I’ve no doubt the king will mark Anne’s 75th. She’ll definitely receive some lovely gifts from the family. I imagine something special, most likely jewellery.

“And I do think there’ll be a party. Whether it’s hosted by the king, Anne’s daughter Zara [Tindall], or someone else, there will definitely be a celebration. Gatcombe [Anne’s home] and Highgrove [one of Charles’ residences] are quite close, so they could mark it there or even at Windsor. It’ll be celebrated by everyone as she deserves it.”

Happy birthday, Princess Anne!
