A charity, supported by Queen Camilla, has been forced to close due to “financial pressures”.

Queen Camilla supports over 90 charities. But one of her beloved patron charities is being forced to close some of its doors. The Prospect Hospice provides end-of-life care for people across North Wiltshire.

It was founded in 1980 and provides care for thousands of people per year. And it has been supported by Her Majesty since she took the seat as its president in 2013. But now, the charity will be shutting down one of its shops.

Charity supported by Queen Camilla reveals closure news

Earlier this week, the charity confirmed that one of its shops will be closing their doors for good.

In a statement shared with HELLO!, the charity said: “The decision to close has not been an easy one. But continued financial pressures across the charity sector, including rising costs and changing shopping habits, mean Prospect Hospice has to focus our resources where they can have the greatest impact on funding patient care.”

It has been confirmed that the Marlborough High Street store will be the one to say goodbye. And its closing date has been confirmed as September 6. Only just over two weeks away.

Head of Commercial Income at Prospect Hospice, Stuart Necrews, spoke about the sadness of the closure.

He said: “We are so thankful to the staff, volunteers, donors and customers who have supported this shop over the years. Closing the doors is not a decision we wanted to make. But it is a necessary one to ensure we can continue providing outstanding care to local people at the end of their lives.”

When did Camilla last visit Prospect Hospice?

Queen Camilla visited her charity Prospect Hospice back in January this year in Wroughton, Swindon.

During her visit, the queen met with patients and staff, alongside CEO Jeremy Lune and Lord Lieutenant Dame Sarah Troughton. While she was there, she also unveiled a commemorative plaque for the anniversary of the hospice.

Queen Camilla also gave an impromptu speech about the important work that hospices do nationwide.

The decision to close has not been an easy one.

She said: “Every time I come here, I come away feeling so impressed and feeling so lucky that Wilshire has something like this to look after people who are at the end of their life.”

However, she also acknowledged the difficulties that hospices and charities face. And spoke about how they needed to make sure the charity continued.

She said: “As I have said time and time again, I wish we could clone these places because there aren’t nearly enough.

“We just have to keep them going. I know a lot of people help out. But we need a lot more help than that.”
